OK what is it ? what does it do?   will I gain 50 HP ? lol

No change in HP or gas milage.  Eliminates any existing or future vacuum leaks. Makes lots of room to install a Dan Marc fuel shutoff valve.  I'm sure others will have something to say.  :coolsmiley:

If it's not broke, don't fix it.  My Std I bought used, and it was de-smogged.  My I/S isn't.  My I/S will stay stock unless something serious arises that would make me modify it.  I can't tell the difference between the 2 besides the obvious...the Std is a '97.   ;)  A lot of us know what that means.   8)

The engine has what is called the PAIR system, which injects air into the exhaust from the air cleaner if the pressure in the exhaust drops. This happens as the pressure wave travels down the headers, creating a brief vacuum at the exhaust outlet. In theory, this improves emissions, by adding fresh air to the partially unburnt exhaust. Kind of the opposite of EGR in an auto engine. De-smogging just removes the valves and tubing that comprise the system. As others have said, you won't notice any change, except, possibly, a slight decrease in pops in the exhaust.

Adding 50hp is adding nearly 50% more power; you may need a turbo or supercharger to get that much.

No 50 ponies, but MarkT's glass packs with a crossover can add a few. Just received my set yesterday (no crossover) and I love them. Very much quality, but wait till you hear them!   8)

I only desmogged  my 97 cause I could not stand the popping noises it made at idle. Noises are gone as well as all the vacuum lines as I also installed a manual Pingle gas valve.
