I wanted to go to Inzane this year. But, my best friend wanted to go to Sturgis so I had a choice. Both, or pick one. I really didn't want to take the time off for both and he wanted to go to Sturgis. So, being the nice guy I am I said Sturgis, I will go to Inzane next year.
I just now got off the phone with him and he just told me he isn't going to Sturgis. He said his kid is having trouble in college (partying not attending classes) and he needs to be in Florida during that time to hold his 22 year olds hand. WTF, I've been planning on Sturgis for just a little less than a year and now this. He knew this a month ago and wouldn't tell me.  tickedoff  I coulda been in Spearfish! I'm so pissed right now I shoulda done what I wanted to in the first place and put off Sturgis until next year and gone to Inzane.  Vent - Vent..

He knew this for a month !  Yep, good friend.

I think we all have had something like that happen. But, they aren't as good a friend after that, maybe thats just me though.  I feel for you though, I know what its like. There is still some time to get there isn't there.

Give your "friend" the address of a Marine Corps recruiter close to where Jr. is and be done with the whole schmear.

All through school, I worked Great Lakes Steel all summer then, if I could afford it and saved enough, I would take off for one or two weeks on a trip before the start of the fall semester.  So one year ('72?), I'm taking my 67' Dodge A100 van for a tour out East to Sturbridge Village and the cape and have three buddies going with me to share expense and fun (promised all summer).  And one by one, with a week to go, they all drop out.  So with a couple days to go, I put up a couple notices at the local watering holes looking for riders to share expense (what was gas, like .55 a gallon?  Lived in the van.), and ended up with a long hair hippie chick..... and her 2yo boy.  It turned out to be a wild trip (except for the diapers and crying).

This probably would not be a good solution for you.   Grin

But I can relate.

I had a lot of great times in my old truck (like this).

Pretty sure you will have a NEW best friend after this.  Cry

That would piss me off knowing for 1 month and at the last minute screw you over.  2-3 weeks notice would have been the norm if he was truly a friend.

Hmmm....his son is 22 yr. old, unless he took some time off then it's not his first year in college. My oldest daughter did the same thing to us so I gave her an ultimatum: Straighten up and fly right, or come home, get an apt. and a job. Made it plain that under the circumstances she wouldn't be moving back in with mom and dad. Next session she did a 4.0 and maintained it the rest of the way. It's a small college and it helped the college president and his wife were personal friends so we knew everything she was doing.  Wink

As for your "friend" backing out, my bet is there's another reason for doing so and sonny is a good excuse. At 22 he's old enough to make his own bed and change his own underwear without daddy's guidance.

I can't tell you how many times I've had friends back out on me last minute on long motorcycle trips.  I've learned to plan my trips for one.....me.  If they can make it ...great...if not I'm just fine by myself.   Some of my best motorcycle trips were by myself.  If you plan the trip from one.....you are never dissappointed.

Yeah, I know the feeling.  A friend backed out at the last minute on a hunting trip we had planned.
I found out later that he had a better offer.  He went on a different hunting trip instead but that wasn't his excuse that he told me.

I know I'm not the only one that this has happened to. This would have been my first and a much "goodest trip to Inzane". When the decision was made for Sturgis and to go to Inzane next year, I scheduled my departments vehicle extrication and patient / body removal for this Sunday. To set this up again would take too much time and the vehicles are set in a staging area already which takes the wrecker company a bunch of time. Don't want to punk them they are good to us.
John: This kids needs to have his ass kicked. He is and has been lazy for ever. He has been babied by mommy since he was a diaper pooper. They did bring him home and made the plans to leave here and hold his hand for 6 months in Florida to get him through school. His dad is a government employee and his mommy works for a very reputable drug company in the bean counter area. Both have QUIT THEIR JOBS to do this.  crazy2  Gonna close their house up and just take off.
Fudgie: If I can get some things moved around I will be in Sturgis. Actually going to Inzane would have killed two birds with one stone. See basically the same country and maybe it would not be so hot like it gets during Sturgis?  Dunno, but I have spent the better part of my life waiting on people. I know I have to at work but when it comes to my friends anymore I'm over it now. I'm a pretty patient person but I'm done waiting for anyone when it comes to doing anything.
Czuch: Any type of service would kill this kid!
Jess: If that is like your van in the pic, those were the best.

We plan a Trip every year to different destinations.  usually 10 day trips.  We start off with about 10 riders going and leave on departure day with 6.  Happens every time.  We just adjust the accommodations bookings on the fly.

That sounds like interesting tragic work.

They  have a way of not letting that happen.
Otherwise, he sounds like another wastrell with a useless degree.

Jess: If that is like your van in the pic, those were the best.
I still have mine and it should be on the road by October.

Good luck if you are going to try to go to Sturgis as the locals are expecting over a million to show up for the 75th. Rooms are already booked at three to five times normal rates. We are in Spearfish at IZ and did Sturgis already. The state is bracing it self for the event.

Media hype. I hear that every yr. As far as rooms, that's the norm. Usually booked before the end of the rally of the yr before. They say for the 75th big headliners for concerts will draw in the crowds. Yet all they booked are the same ones that have played before.  Undecided A extra 300,000-400,000 bikers wont bother me.  Grin
