"When You're Dead, Your Bank Account Goes to Zero"

Livin' Better Side of The Great Divide

« on: June 11, 2015, 05:38:27 PM »

Episodes of the 2015 Isle of Man TT races are being shown nightly on the Velocity Channel.
Those boys have stones of stone. uglystupid2
Average above 125 MPH laps over the 37 miles that is the epic course.
One of the last true motorcycle races in which independents and lone wolves can compete head-to-head with the factory teams that have millions behind them.
Great coverage from stationary and on-board cameras.

Guy Martin is a hoot to listen to in his interviews. cooldude

Yah, watched a little bit of it the other day - pretty crazy.

I highly doubt any of us have the cahooneys to attempt to go that fast for so long, no way.

Nothing I have ever watched on screen gives me the pure exhilaration that Isle of Mann video does.  Likely because after 42 years of riding, I know what it takes to go that fast (next to stone walls and buildings).  Many of the pros will not ride the race at all, simply too much risk to a good paying career on regular tracks.

It would be the trip of a lifetime to attend, but very spendy.

They used to leave the course open for a week or so after the race for the public. Don't know if they still do. There's some pretty impressive youtube video's of amateurs on stock bikes.

And in that vein: Pikes Peak International Hill Climb at the end of June where Victory Motorcycles (making an impressive showing at Isle of Man) is gonna have a team to challenge the 156 turn course up the mountain.

Go America! cooldude

Stones of stone, indeed! Shocked

Is Dunlop the best ever on that course?  Or McGuinness?  Since Hailwood. Undecided

Of a different sort, but I feel equally as important to motorcycle racing, is the annual Paris to
Dakar (now called the Dakar Rally).  Entirely different in their respective genres, but still take stones of stone to participate.
The Isle of Man has to be at the top, however, for environment, speed, and danger.
An item on my bucket list; sure hope it can happen someday. Smiley Smiley
