I absolutely love filing in the states that I have visited on my Valkyrie, but I wonder though what constitutes filling in a state. Are there any rules or guides to follow?

I'm not sure if one has to ride across the entire state, do a certain amount of miles in the state, or just dip a toe in the state to be able to color it in.

I personally made a goal to ride more than 200 miles in the state before I allow myself to color it in. What is everyone else doing?

I just color in any one I've ridden in.  Some i rode days in and some i rode hours in.  Just depends on the state.

Never check miles in a state. If I cross over into thru one I color it. Aren't any rules. No "colored in states nazis" Do what you like  cooldude

When coloring, it's best to stay in the lines.

I counted Hawaii, even though I only rode a rented bike around Maui.
I counted West Virginia the first time I crossed through it between Ohio and Pennsylvania (been back since, ridden through more of it).

You make your own rules, I guess

I have a map of the globe for similar stats... only pins instead of colors.

My personal rule... my feet must touch soil ( I don't count passing through an airport).

So... I go by the same rules for riding in a state.  When my foot touches soil, I count it.

That's just my rule though... everybody does things differently.

(Side note... I've touched soil on six of the seven continents...  cooldude )

Then there is the 4 Corners. All 4 states at the same time.

But where is the bike, and how long would it take to follow a road that would take you to them all?

Grew up in Little Rhody (1045 square miles) and you can cover 200 miles within it's boundaries, from Little Compton to Watch Hill to Woonsocket and back to Little Compton (stopping for chowder & clam cakes, of course).  There are actually some nice back roads through the woods, but you WILL get lost unless you have a native to guide you through the "sticks".  ???

I have counted all that the tires and my feet have touched.
Many of them have been on rented bikes while I was on on business trips.
When I travel for business I always try to get an extra 2 or 3 days on the front or back end to ride the local roads, kind of my twofer for having to travel so much.
