In my experience, currency can be traded for goods and services. It's also a major player in several bar tricks.

What I have been reading about is a desire to limit how much cash people have on hand. Used to be $10K got reported to the Feds, then 5K, now it can be any amount. New rules and reporting requirements are being discussed. When a man could make 4% in a savings account, it made sense to keep it there. Now you can make bupkass. Everyone ought to have some cash on hand.... just like ammunition (they don't like that either). KMA
While this is not currency, I've also been reading we may be better off rolling over 401Ks into Traditional IRAs (not that one should not take advantage of current employment 401Ks with matching funds). There is no question the G covets our savings (they don't have any savings, just taxes).
Copy paste:
Justification for rolling over a 401K to a Rollover IRA
- Consolidation of accounts into one mutual fund company
o Provides web access to all with one log on
§ Vanguard web site is most probably more secure than most of the other 401K web sites, run by the companies
o Provides an easier less complicated process for diversification
o Access to much wider investment choices – many mutual funds of all asset class and size, Managed and Indexed
o ONE consolidated Statement
- Increase total portfolio return
o Mutual fund selections provide options for the top funds Managed and Indexed
o Various 401K investments will lead to neglect and then ignoring lower returns
- Less fees
o All 401K investments add 401K “Management” and “Administrative” fees in addition to the regular individual mutual fund fees - even Federal TSP and State funds add on fees. They hire others companies to manage it for them (add on fees) in addition to their in house people and the costs for those employees. Lest we forget that there are still companies that practice a more favorable structure to senior employees’ (principals) and there are still companies who practice shenanigans in accounting and money management for the processes of withholding 401K money and then sending it to the actual 401K fund.
o With the top Mutual Fund companies, fees are much less for each fund and the IRAs are very competitive today
- Easier withdrawals
o Each 401K has Company withdrawal rules in addition to IRS tax law withdrawals, and are not online friendly (they want you to go through a “goat rope” to withdraw so you will be discouraged to take money out)
o Having all of your Rollover IRAs in one mutual fund company money can be withdrawn any time from online access, complying with the law and minimizing the effort (I don’t like to be “messed with” when I want to move or withdraw my money from any investment)
o With a 401K withdrawals could be taxed more if you are having to be compliant with a company 401K policy, i.e., withdrawal amounts, periodicity and account withdrawal specification
- Less Risk
o Gov’t and company 401K policies are much more extensive than the companies who provide IRAs investments
o Gov’t and company 401K can put a hold on your money for various reasons, WITH JUST A POLICY, i.e. waiting time, real or purported debts, violation of any company policy, etc
o It takes a court order to put a hold on an IRA
o Inheritance laws, vary by State, are different and more stringent for 401K, with addition processing and verifications policies, and a real “goat rope” in withdrawal processes
o Inheritance laws, vary by State, are simple for IRAs – just list the beneficiaries and to withdraw provide a death certificate (two simple account renaming and management strategies provide even greater simplification to this an inherited IRA – one small diff for spouse vs child or another relative)

Could you elaborate? Just have been hearing more and more about American currency, losing is world value and end up with pennies on the dollar. Also I hear about major focus on SS, depletion, and gov, taking over 401's and IRS's. It just seems odd, to be hearing about it in places you normally never discuss it. I understand there are "The end of the World" whack jobs, but when I see rational, competent people discussing it, it kind of gets my attention. I surf TV and the net and try to rationalize what I see and hear, and weed out the whack job, sh*t stirs, and propaganda. A few years ago there was a serious discussion with China wanting one world currency, then it sort of went away suddenly. Now we have every dick weed in other countries, hacking into our national security databases, as easy as we get in to google. Also hearing much about being prepared for unforeseen issues, like weather and other disasters, I guess that would make sense, looking at what has been going on in the US weather wise. So I thought I would ask you guys what you seriously think!! No panic, just observation!!! If I don't ask or make a point, I can't learn anything, right!!!

As if we don't have enough problems. Mainly we need to do a rollover into an honest Federal government composed of elected that are working for us. A nice unworkable solution.

It stopped raining. No major flooding in metro Detroit. More rain to come later this week. My money is still dry.

And more rain tomorrow, and my ground is saturated. I guess I should put my bike on the lift and keep it high. LOL

Seriously, before you get too worked up take a look at the one year chart of the US Dollar vs the Euro and other major currencies... I'm more worked up about the First Lady admitting she's a Muslim. May not sleep tonight... Oh, wait...I just got home from Inzane and four 450+ mile days -- I'll sleep.
