Do they make such a thing? I just bought a house and my cell reception is horrible in and around it. Texting is fine but calls are dropped a lot. Getting online with my phone is a chore also. I looked at some apps but some don't get good reviews. Looked up youtube tips also but really didn't change anything. Didn't know if signal booster would work or were a gimmick.

I'm not sure of the technical term for them either bt they do.  Here on the coast after Hurricane Katrina "Category 5" buildings became common.  They're basically bunkers so you got a ton of signal lose.  They have them throughout for both cellular signal and Wifi.  They do exist.

Microcell tower.  For ATT customers, try this.  Great for homes hidden from the cell tower by a large hill ( like us).  It works, Cheryl gets 5 bars instead of 0.   cooldude

I use Verizon's Network Extender with great service.  Full cell and wi fi signal.
I live over 10 miles from the nearest tower deep in the mountains.

I believe he was referring to the little gizmo you attach to your phone, and not necessarily the boxes you connect to your internet service providers service.  I think this because he is attempting to connect with his phone.

I believe the ones that attach to the phone are not sufficiently effective.  However, those that connect to your home internet service are.

If I recall, you moved back to a home located behind the fire house???  Maybe you could have the firehouse offer up their building roof to support a cell tower in the area to help everyone.  The fire hall could charge rent and see some income monthly and the cellular service company might get better coverage and more subscribers as a result???  Just a thought.......

Looking for one that would plug into the house without spending a arm and a leg.

I believe would need to  have high speed internet access at your house, and if so you should probably talk with your internet and cell phone service providers to see what works best in your area.  Verizon has one that works well and there are others I'm sure, but your providers should hopefully be able to guide you.

gee, if  I could get high speed internet out here I wouldn't be wanting one of those either.  Service in part of my house that if I do a "where is my phone?" search, it puts the phone 3 miles from home

There are 2 kinds of cell boosters -

One - you have a box that attaches to your internet connection. AT&T and Verizon have these. AT&T  at one time would only do these with a postpaid account - Verizon was not quite such a problem.

Two - the "real" cell boosters - these actually receive and transmit cell signals , like a relay device. www.solidsignal.com has these, Wilson Electronics  are pretty good. You can get these for building AND mobile uses.

And yes - my house can have signal issues inside. My current Verizon service seems to do pretty well most of the time, so I didn't need to get anything.

There are signal boosters that are made for sailing cruisers that will get you connected over 20 miles from shore dependably.

What you are looking for is a cell phone repeater. The good ones are not cheap and the cheap ones are not good. I have had much experience with these and have installed a few.
here is a good one that works for home use.

+1
Place I like to camp a few weeks at a time is a long ways to cell service which is fine but need to make a call sometimes. Used to be a 7 mile ride on the atv to the top of the mountain every few days to check in. Now call from the camper.

The Wilson units work great. Unit mounts indoors, antenna mounts outdoors ( on our roof in my case ) . Boosts signal in the metal office building from 0 to 1 bar to full strength. We have been using it for several months now with no problems. Boosts standard and the 3G / 4G connections, internet connections with smart phones are great also, highly recommend the Wilson package, it came with outdoor and indoor antennas and cables, easy set up, took about 1 hour to be online.

I just complained to the ATT guy when I got my new Samsung that cell service sucked at my house and I could hardly make calls from inside my house.  I have to go out on the driveway to get a small signal.  ATT gave me a MicroCell to attach to my high speed internet and now we all have 5 bars.  It takes the cell signal and sends it over the internet, somehow..  Smiley

Oh Damn!!  Well, I have Comcast internet.  It's not the greatest, but fast enough to provide good cell calls.  They did try and sell me U-verse, or what ever they call their internet.  I said, no thank you...

Where I live, internet options are:  dial up (but I don't have a landline), satellite (tried that, expensive, restrictive and unpredictable), or wireless broadband.  I ordered one of the suggested boosters, I'll find out soon if it helps.
