OK, I finally did it, been thinking about it since Biketoberfest.  These last two Daytona trips seemed to be particularly annoying as far as coming home and having persistent tinnitus.  I do not remember ever being bothered by it much.  Lately anything more than an hour and I notice ringing louder.  So, last week I went and bought the black Tourer and of course it has stock pipes on it.  Man was that nice to ride a quiet bike for a change.  No ringing in the ears.  I really like the "zoom zoom" it does, reminds me of the Mazda comercials

Ok, so a few years ago I noticed an ad in here for a "like new" set of Stnd pipes for cheap.  So I picked them up and they have been hanging on the stereo cabinet in the family room ever since.

So today I took off the Cobras, removed the old gaskets (two sets on the right side) and put on the OEM pipes with fresh gaskets.

Sure is different, but I like the change for now.  and I guess the bike is back to the advertised 100 HP since everyone says the Cobras robs some.  I cant tell, seems just as fast as it was, no more, no less.

And they look GREAT too!

I bought a bike that had been "Ragnar Cut" w/ truck stacks.  It was cool to hear her roar when I cranked the throttle, but I also got tired of the drone on any ride over a hour or so.

Bought a set of like new pipes and the bike is alot more enjoyable to ride.

Dont know how you did the Cobra pipes at all, thats why I got the Jardines just a nice note not loud and no drone. But with the new 14 Valk and stock exhaust its great.

I have had the bike for 13 years and have loved the cobras up until last October.  I guess my ears just developed a sensitivity to that particular sound.  So call me old or soft, or whatever, but Im just enjoying the peace for now.  I may try wrapping the baffles on the old Cobras and re installing them sometime later.....who knows.

While I can appreciate what a nice set of pipes sounds like, I run stock pipes because I can't afford to lose any more of my hearing.    If I'm riding with someone who has loud pipes, I back off or take the lead.    You don't realize you're losing your hearing until it's too late.    Ask me how I know.   :(

Ehhh?  What?

G-Man

I cut the piggies and drilled a 1" hole through each one into the rear baffle.  Then added 18" slash cut extensions.  The pipes just about reach the back of the rear fender.  The sound is a lot deeper and a bit louder.   I wear a half helmet and don't experience drone.  The helmet has a removable collar that covers the ears, makes the helmet a 3/4 kind of, and I still don't experience the drone.  Never ridden with a full face.  I like the sound and so far my ears are the one (two) thing on my body that hasn't experienced any deficits so far.  :coolsmiley:

Those do look great. I have a lot of blueing on my cobras from the high heat. That chrome sleeve on the stockers work so well. I like the cobras tho. They seem to get quiet at highway speed. I really only hear it on accel. In town at 2500 rpm all i hear it the engine chirp. Been thinking about taking the baffles out but I think I would only like it for a short time. And yes. My hearing has been damaged since i was a teenager.
