Last weekend we had our final camping trip with our old toy hauler (ABATE State Field Meet) and it RAINED!!!!! Bittersweet as we will no longer be using our old and beloved Road Master R-Sport toy hauler. First used in Daytona Bike Week 2009. Today we took delivery of our new 2016 Canyon Cat toy hauler. The very first (documented) 2016 off the production line. And the best part is it is PAID IN FULL!!!.

congrats as well but your old one is not big enough for my needs, wish it was. I got a lead on a 21' toy hauler very local but is a 2000 model but looks to be almost big enough inside to fit both our 8'2" long 2-up ATV's inside or our VAlk and 1 ATV partially sideways.
Is older being 2000, but he wants 7500 for it, but blue book lists it out worth 6500 and he won't go that low I don't believe. Has it all, A/C/ fridge-freezer/heat/sleeps 4/full bath/3 burner stove/oven, and hot water heater with full bathroom. ONLY 2 options it doesn't have is a generator and fuel station container with gas pump built in.
Going to give him a call soon to see if he is around to go look at it at least. He wants to sell soon such as yourself since he has his eyes on a new, smaller camper and getting out of ATVing in his 60's needing to downsize.
By the way, what does your new toy hauler weigh and overall length? The older 2000 toy hauler made by Thor is 21' inside and another 4' tongue making it 25' total in length weighing 5090 lbs., able to tow with a 1/2 ton truck but pushing my limits of weight I want to tow since then add another 1500-1600lbs. inside as well making it then 6700lbs. towing with 1/2 ton truck.
I priced out a 8.5x16' new steel trailer which will serve my needs or 7x18' and both are under 5 grand new to buy vs. spending 7K or so on this older 2000 toy hauler with am sure some surface rust, etc. and at 1/2 the weight as well.
Decisions, decisions - wife said by new and smaller enclosed basic trailer, don't need a massive used/older toy hauler, but would be nice once the kids are outta the house in 4-5 more years.

Cookiedough: The new trailer is 25" measured from the outside body dimensions and weighs 5600 lbs. It is towable with my 1/2 ton GMC pick up. My old Roadmaster trailer weighs 4800 lbs. and is only 17" in length.

NICE! We took our hauler for a maiden trip to Inzane, had a great time.
I would like to make one suggestion on an incident which happened to us. The bedroom window on the drivers side is an fire escape egress window. The window opens from the bottom and hinges on top. Our window did not get fasten secure enough and was blown off somewhere on Highway 16 in the black hills around Hill City, SD. If the window bracket comes loose it will slide out of the hole and you will loose the window. We are going to put an additional tie wire on the bracket of the new window for future trips.
I checked on several RV sites and it is a common problem and will cost around 400.00 for a new window plus installation. We have a little larger hauler and we have another egress window in the garage, so I am going to move it to the bedroom and put a solid window on the garage to save some cash. We could alway use the other window in the garage for an egress, it is the same size and could be kicked out if necessary.
Happy traveling,
Bill

I recently bought a gooseneck toy hauler but, I'll be danged if I can find the data plate to see what it weighs. I pull it with a 2500 Dodge Cummins and it's not a real test of the engine/drive train to pull it with, the exception of the aerodynamics. Damn it pushes a lot of air! I pull a flat bed cargo gooseneck a lot and have never gotten fuel mileage as low as when pulling the toy hauler. I knew the fuel mileage would suffer but had hoped to get at least 14.5 mpg.
Oh well, where's that data plate located?

An interesting site is http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs which will show the weight and some info on pricing. Out trailer killed our milage also. Bill

No matter what size toy hauler you have even pulling say 3500lbs., I've never seen while towing anything over 15 avg mpg ever in a gas V8, diesel maybe 20 if lucky. I'd suspect 5600lbs. plus say 800-1500 more toys inside will be pushing the comfortable hauling capacity of almost all 1/2 ton trucks. They say can tow 10,100 lbs. but not so sure I'd want to much over 7000lbs.
Nice it is paid for though for sure, not so sure I want to spend over 15 grand on any toy hauler though unless you use it ALL the time and going to get tons of use out of it.

The data plate should be located ner the front left side and near the lower edge of the trailer body.
