I am no golfer, but enjoy a few tournaments a year.
This Chambers Bay course looks more like a motocross track than a golf course. And the balls are all over the place on the greens. I know it is equally shitty for everyone, but what a crappy place for the US Open (IMHO). The announcers have been falling all over themselves trying to sell the course as a great and wonderful challenge (methinks they protest too much).
The players beating the greens with their putters seem to have a different opinion.
US Opens are supposed to be on a challenging course, but playing in a train yard is not my idea of challenging golf.

Not much fun to watch, actually somewhat painful. Good shot making is not rewarded, as the ball may roll another 80 yards, who knows where. More like playing on the moon. One golfer said that playing on the putting service was like "playing on broccoli".

Thats one ugly ass course in my opinion. I wouldn't waste good money to play it. But, the older I get the more I think Mark Twain was right.

50 robbed putts ruins the match.
The greens (should be called the browns) are more like gambling than golf.

It looked like a landfill and played like a miniature golf course. Yet, it was surrounded by some of the most beautiful country on Earth. It was an embarrassment to the U.S. Open. I'll take the Masters at Augusta any day. Too painful to watch,so I didn't.

Well, young Mr Spieth takes home $1.8 million.... added to the the $1.8 million he took home from the Masters. Not a bad wage for 6 months' work. The hell with sending your kids to college, send them to golf school.
Poor Dustin Johnson 3-putts the 18th and has to share 2-3 place winnings; instead of an outright win or a playoff today. I was thinking he decided to blow it, just so he didn't have to play another 18 holes on that course today.

I don't think he blew it on purpose but I was glad he did, I didn't want to watch another round on that awful course. Why is the USGA trying to make our open look like the British Open. The PGA gets it they pick a great course and set it up to show case the players and the game. The USGA wants to embarrass the players.

Not a golfer and typically don't watch golf on TV, but I do usually keep track of the majors and pay pretty darned close attention to the final two rounds in each. Somehow the human drama just appeals to me even though I haven't swung a club since high school. Nice to dream and maybe live vicariously through these incredibly talented (and rich!) young guys for a weekend.
For whatever reason I agree with the folks questioning the golf course. I understand the desire to move the Open to the Pacific Northwest. The challenge offered by the course was certainly fitting a major...
Yet, somehow, the event did not prove satisfying to the point that the telecast held my attention this year. Don't know if it was the three-hour delay for us east-coasters and the resulting late start and end time for the top players, or maybe it was the lack of ability of many to put and keep the ball on the green. The course just looked foreboding, and not one that anyone there was really enjoying playing. That whole "backstop" thing where the ball was played high behind the hole and allowed to reverse track toward the cup just didn't do it for me after a while...
Hats off to young Jordan Spieth who has two of the first four in his pocket this year. Go, Big Guy! I also hear that Dustin Johnson is fighting some personal demons, and one hopes this disappointment doesn't fuel that problem.
OK...bring on the British Open at the home of golf! _________________________________________________
In closing...BikerGirl and I missed seeing you at Inzane, Jess. Hope the rumors on the short list prove true and it's close enough for you to make Inzane XVI! The beer with your name on it will keep cold until next year...

Kelly, I enjoyed meeting you and Elizabeth at Inzane last year. Perhaps next year is in the cards for me, we'll see. Income and endurance has decreased with age, but has not disappeared entirely. As an alternative, I had a great time in NC with the FL crowd, though every afternoon was more like a Uboat convention than a bike gathering.
