Shinko Journey SE890 Tire Report - BAD!

It saddens me to write this report. Last summer I purchased a Shinko Journey SE890 150/80R17 (DOT 0913) front tire for the Valkyrie. I ran the tire at 38psi (42 max psi printed on sidewall). I have just over 6,000 miles on the tire with good tread left on the tire.

The last couple of short rides that I have done the front end bounced and was unstable at all speeds. Upon inspecting the tire I found a large bubble had formed under the tread just to the right of the center of the tire. I do believe this is called "De-laminating".

I purchased the tire hearing the horror stories with Shinko hoping they were isolated events, but I now too have a bad review to write. I am incredibly lucky that I caught this and didn't have an accident because of the defective tire. I won't be going back to Shinko after this.

I'm liking double dark so far, Josh.  Got a Bridgestone BT-45 Battlax V rated rear tire for $100 shipped.  Running it on front reverse tread at 1lb. under the max which is listed at 42 psi.  The tire grips like it has teeth, and if I can get over 20,000k on these chip & seal roads like MarkT told me he has got from them, I'll be a very happy camper.

Seth,

What size Battle-Ax?

I'm running the 150/70-17.  Its about an inch shorter and (edit -- close to) the same width as OEM.  I think others including Mark are using 130/90-17, which is taller and skinnier than OEM.  I think I found mine at Revzilla if I remember correctly, but looks like they've went up a bit.  $119.88 at Dennis Kirk.

Good to know, thanks for the report.  I ran a Shinko Tourmaster on a Goldwing last summer, it wore fast but was sticky and handled well.  Too bad about the poor quality control, that's a good enough reason to steer clear of the brand.

I don't know-MAYBE I got lucky twice. I've run the S E 890 back to back with zero-and I mean ZERO issues. The white wall I'm on now-had it at I-15-is another Shinko I believe It's a 777. Sorry you had the problem-cursed glad it did NOT go bonkers at speed! AND I'd like to add-glad I got to meet you at I-15.  :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.

+1 on DONT BUY THE Shinko SE890. had it on the front.

Around 6000 miles i got the thumping at slow speeds in the handle bars, the bike front end slipping in turns.

When I got home and inspected the front tire, huge part of the tread was GONE...

I am going to file a complain with National Highway Safety on this carp tire.

Now I am waiting for my AVON to get here next week.
