Left out and hit the Pilot station in Williamsburg, KY. Added a can of Berrymans to the tank and filled it with gas. Got on 25W and was keeping it below 2k rpms to work into the slow jets like everyone recommends. I gotta tell ya I had a hard time but was persistent all the way to Jellico. Continiueing on 25W towards LaFollette I was determined to keep the rpms down below 2k rpms. After 25 miles I could no longer take 5th gear going 35-40 on such a great road. how do you all do it. Worked my way to Clinton and checked in on Gordon (Lucky13) to see how his standard project is coming alon. It's a labor of love to get it to Gordon's high standards but is looking good. He took me around a few shaded back roads to the dam on 441 between Clinton and Lake City now called Rocky Top. Escorted me to Rocky Top where I meandered home an he went to his duties for the rest of the day. Thanks for catching a little wind in heat with me Gordon.

Okay, so here's a question from a not so blessed mechanical mind.
When I'm running at or above 3500 RPM I'm pretty sure the high speed gates have been opened. Are the low speeds opened or closed? Does fuel at the higher RPMs flow through only the highs or through both?

I apologize but beyond the basics I'm not a gearhead... What?
Reading for context, assuming the Valk has 2 sets of fuel delivery mechanisms, one for 2k RPM and under and one for above?

2500 & below, slow jets.
2503 & above, high jets.
2500-2502 both.
My son is a carb expert, that be a jerk under pressure, and the above explanation is right out of his/my old professors mouth. He heard it in high school, same teacher as I had back in the late 40's.
He got out of high school and specialized in carbs. Several garages in town send their customers cars to him for carb work.

The slow speed jets of Valkyrie have no method for closing. Although the opening of the high speed jets (may) cause a reduction in vacuum pressure on the slow speed jets, reducing the flow somewhat.
Slow speed jets at slow speed. Usually up to about 1/3 twist grip travel. Slow and high speed jets at higher RPM.

What RJ said is what I understand as well. I get what you are talking about. After setting all winter and only being started on occasion I do what you did as well. Its tough after 4 or 5 months of no riding but I do it anyway on a two laner "not so busy" back road. Never had a carb issue.

this explains all questions in detail http://www.factorypro.com/tech/tech_tuning_procedures/tuning_carbtune,CV,lower_rpm_engines.htmlcruising speed going down hwy the pilot jet should be the main source of fuel, if not dialed in right one will start going into the needle circuit and mpg goes down big time. I've been tuning carbs since '98, I usually can answer most questions not answered by the link. CV carbs are really relatively simple to understand once the basics are known.
