You know, just when you think you've heard it all, here's a couple of beauties.

The first is a call to ban certain kitchen knives (assault knives?)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4581871.stm

The second is about a movement to boycott the new Jurassic World movie because one of the scientific names for one of the dinosaurs when abbreviated sounds like a racist term.

It'd be funny of it weren't so true.  Wait!  Apparently it is true.  OK, now it's funny.   uglystupid2

Education is a dangerous thing, in the hands of people who do not possess a brain.

Once they ban the guns, they move on to the next means of... whatever?

You will note that the BBC link is from 2005.

I believe it's illegal in the UK to carry a knife that is longer than 4 inches fully open.

So the bad guys started sharpening bicycle spokes to use as weapons.

You will NEVER be able to stop someone from causing harm to another if they really want to.

In trained hands, just about anything can be used as a weapon, like a wooden spoon, toilet brush, mop, fingertips ...

I had a court date yesterday and was told that I could not bring my cane into the courthouse.
Was told metal canes were classified as weapons,....however wooden canes were OK (?). WTF

I learned that from MacGyver.

I   trained and taught in the martial arts and had two schools. Survival street fighting.
Weapons were made of anything you could get your hands on. A Fillipino (Phillipines) fighting cane is something I take with me on some trips. Looks wise , it is the same , but if you look at the handle curve , it is more open. This is to hook around a neck , or other body parts.
The last time I was in court , I had my folding metal cane and a bailiff  stood within reach of me. I turned and asked him if he wanted to hold my cane as I could lean on the counter for support. He declined and stood his ground. Every one has something capable of being a weapon , you just have to know how to use if.

You will NEVER be able to stop someone from causing harm to another if they really want to.

THAT is something progressives and liberals refuse to acknowledge.  We all know it's true, but it throws a monkey wrench onto their objectives.

They have gone to incredible lengths to create fear of ALL inanimate objects that can be used to inflict harm against others.  I relayed this story in another thread….. Was telling my wife and daughter about Mark's (Mad6Gun) gun collection and the look of fear came over the daughters face and she began shaking her head No.  She was afraid of a story about guns that are in another state more than 600 miles away.  How do you overcome this brainwashing?  This denial of common sense?

One by one. Come visit here in The Republic, and I'll let my 12 year old daughter show your womenfolk her gun collection and teach them to shoot. Familiarity and knowledge wipe out fear and paranoia.

Bit of a tangent but an analogy - even the most racist of racist people will overcome their racism once they get to know a few folks of whatever group it is they were against. Same thing with guns, or anything else really...

I disagree with your analogy about racism. I grew up in a family of racists and they knew plenty of people of opposing races. They went to their death beds despising different races.

Did they despise the individuals of the offending races that they knew?

I find that most prejudices break down on the individual level. And the more you can get people introduced to individuals of whatever it is that scares them (be a person of a specific race, or a tool as the case of the OP) then the better off they'll get along.

Yes they did. The problem is , you are speaking from a point of rationality. Racists just plain aren't rational in their thoughts of this. They are full of hate. Whether it was indoctrinated into them or they came to it on their own.
