I for one am glad the Sargeant shot him in the back. I'm also glad he didn't die. MAYBE we will get some answers to who all was complicit in helping them escape. Hopefully the rest of his life sentence will be miserable.

he wasn't guilty in the first place so what difference does it make at this point?
Can I ask why you are glad he didn't die? So we can pay more than the average American earns in a year to keep him locked up?

I thought I stated it in my post. I hope we can find ALL the people that were complicit in his escape. I also hope his life sentence is as miserable as can be.

Miserable at our expense. That is a really good thought.
He is a convicted murderer so pull the switch and get rid of him!

Question:

We have had riots all over the country because a black man was shot while unarmed.

Now, a white man was shot while RUNNING AWAY from a cop, posing NO THREAT, and so far no outcry.

Earlier a number of lawyers had been on TV, saying that the cops could not shoot Sweat "as long as he was not threatening them, or someone else."  i.e., the cops cannot just "execute" him.

I am wondering why the change?  Running away is NOT a threat to the cop.  If Sweat had died, he would have been "executed".

I am soooo glad he is captured.  I couldn't care less if he had died.  But, I am wondering about all the statements by legal people that the cops could not just shoot him, and that is exactly what happened.

If it is ok for him to be shot, why all the statements earlier that they could not?

I'm no lawyer and I haven't been in a Holiday Inn since Inzane. But I think the rules are different for escapees. When they try to escape they can shoot them without being threatened.

Perhaps not all escapees, but running convicted murderers (considered a lethal threat to everyone) escapees are generally fair game.  Of course he must be allowed to surrender.... but not allowed to escape, again.

Miserable !?  He is in New York State !
As far as I'm concerned you can blame our governor for the escape.

I don't have a problem with him being shot, but was he sure it was him? He was running, it must be him?

Dont worry, several people at the bottom will be scapegoated. But, those that set the policies ans standards will be blameless, as usual.

Yep, our incompetent governor will be let off the hook for his prison policy changes. He's a democrat, a liberal democrat, so its OK.
2 other guards are now being looked at.

They said the cop was face to face with him before he ran.

I think the officer's aim was a little low.
