Little Rock

« on: June 29, 2015, 03:12:41 PM »

Yesterday, while filling up at the ethanol-free pump in the  hill country west of Little Rock, five Harley riders, four guys & a woman pulled in followed by a 40 foot trailer with three more Harley's and a disconnected Voyager trike kit. They were on their way back to Southern Louisana from a Patriot Guard Rally in Nashville.

I pulled away from the pump and finished the junk food lunch I had started & a conversation started. Guy who seemed to be the leader was about my age, (68), & was clearly a retired Marine. They went over to my trike asking meaningful questions and looking it over sort of in detail, enough to notice the "day pass" from Rushmore still on my handle bar from InZane. We had a very nice normal conversation covering roads ahead of them, places to stay, eat, etc. The woman's bike was making a noise that concerned her, so one of the guys pulling the trailer test rode it, then another of the guys took it for a test ride and then a conversation as to whether to load it on the trailer over the Voyager kit ensued.

After the decision was made to ride on with the questionable bike, the Marine jokingly remarked to me "if you're going to ride these things, there's  lot of logistics involved and you got to be prepared" Soon after, he nodded toward the Valk & asked/remarked " those things as reliable as people claim"?

Point of the story is that we had a nice, normal, ordinary, conversation as is routine when Southerners meet Southerners and talking football is not involved.

The only exception to the story as related above, was the fifth Harley rider who seemed to be just riding along with the others based on the way he was dressed and the unkempt condition of his bike who spent the entire time glaring at me or my trike without saying a word. The guy was actually overtly hostile.

I absolutely don't understand anyone who gets so worked up over a yellow tricycle.

There's an ass in every group, this one just happened to be on a Harley.

Jess,

This stuff cracks me up...I ride the Valk and its a look or comment from other groups. I ride one of my Harleys, it's from another group. It's kinda like "no one waves at me". Does it really matter?  Nope! Harleys have been and always will be the comparison on any forum weather its a slam or comparison. You never hear about the guy riding the Victory or the Indian, it's Harley. Just the way it is. Again, does it matter? Nope!

As I previously said, there's an ass in every group.    In reference to the "look", body language often says more than the verbal version.    While it can be mis-intrepreted, it's most often not.
I've got a lot of friends who ride all kinds of different brands, there's always an ass on our rides.   Some may think I'm it.  Wink

Jess,

Good point. My bad.

I'm more or less an introvert and react more to others being friendly to me. Otherwise, I'm not very outgoing.

I'm kind and outgoing to widows and orphans, but not unkempt guys who glare at me.

When I'm I'm really focused and/or thinking hard, I tend to scowl.  Many times I've been asked what's wrong when I'm actually fine.  Approach me anyway, and it'll turn into a smile.  Smiley

Maybe he was one of the dedicated riders that have a problem with waiting for others who don't keep up their equipment and cause him to wait when he could be riding... A dirty bike doesn't mean a poorly maintained Bike.... See Daniel's....

I have been in that situation  and I was grumpy...... LOL .....Try leading a group of bikes through Manhattan with one guy in the back who won't keep up (and I was the only one who knew where we were really going) and this was before cell phones... and he would not turn on his CB....... We eventually left him to himself on the last day on the way home....... I haven't seen him since...

But he did get left somewhere on the east side of New York... State, that is..... and he was warned if he didn't keep up, I wasn't going to wait...... last thing I ever said to him.

I hate leading people who refuse to follow, specifically those who insist on setting the pace when they're not leading.
