I would get one of those metal casts and use the other fingers.  Hope all goes well in surgery and recovery.

Just get one of those fancy braded Hardley clutch lever danglers, have your lovely Wife give it a pull and shifting will be a brease.

There is not a problem this board can't fix!

I had the same thing in 01 when I was operating a lathe at work. I cut through my left index finger from the nail to above the middle joint and through the bone. Opened it up all the way down to the nail. I had surgery and pins to hold it together. I made an alum. tube to cover it completely and was back to work in 2-3 weeks and riding my valk. I just pulled the clutch by hooking my fingers around and pulling with my arm then letting it out with my fingers keeping my index finger pointing out. I had another surgery before it was healed to replace some damaged bone that could not heal. I was home in bed recuperating  during the 9-11 attack. My finger is still sore and I cannot bend it more than 50%. It's almost useless. %0 years as a machinist and near retirement this happened. If you want to ride just protect the finger and go for it.

Sorry to hear, Robin.  Take the time, relax, polish some chrome.  The time will go by quicker than you think.
