Hey Budman, Scott in OK...

Is this ride no longer happening??? reason asking was I was asked by my wife if there were any dates she needed to take off for the rest of the year.  Made me think of this ride.

Sure hope if it has been cancelled that maybe it will be revitalized!

Hey Joe!
Missed you this year at Inzane.
The last Dragons To The Cave was a couple of years ago and Karen and I were the only ones that could make the trip.
I think the scheduling was a problem for lots of folks.
I'll be willing to help again putting it on if we can get some intrest built up.
The last big gathering there was mainly comprised of Kansas and Oklahoma riders.
Any interest from some of the Arkansas and Texas folks joining us?
This could be a great one!  cooldude

Where be that cave?

Outside of Wilburton, Oklahoma.  It's a short way from the end of the Talimena and in lovely hill country.  Look up Robbers' Cave in Oklahoma.

I'm interested.

Getting to that area from points north is a really nice ride.

What dates are you thinking on this?  Monica and I may be able to ride that way...as long as it isn't in September...September is already booked solid for us.

Set a date and I, representing Arkansas again, will be there.

If scheduled when I can make it, there's a Kentuckian interested.   Don't have a clue until a date is announced.

The one time I went was the year Joplin, MO, disappeared shortly afterwards.  That was 2011.  If my shoulder lets me, I'd be interested ... if the dates work for me, that is.  I'm pretty well booked from August to December.

The trip in 2011 was in the spring and the weather was very "Oklahoma Spring Like". (Loudest thunder clap I have ever heard in my life  Shocked
In 2012 we had it in October. The weather was GREAT, but the group was smaller.
In 2013 (October again) no one could make it. (I had a nice ride though.)
I have a new job with very restricted vacation days now. I will help set up the trip, but it will have to be over a holiday weekend for me to participate directly. Columbus Day in October might have the least conflicts with people's existing plans. Labor day is always booked for almost everyone!
Thoughts?

Once upon a time it had started with a planned trip to hit Talamina Drive to catch the fall colors and get a nice ride in, typically early October. Always a crap-shoot when scheduling in advance. When you caught it right, it couldn't be more colorful.

It may have been 2004 that Robbers Cave was first introduced to the route. (I could be mistaken).

Always a good time. It takes a lot of work to get it all pulled together, just ask Scott. The gathering managed to pull attendee's from Ok, TX, AR, KS & NM to name a handful.

I apologize in advance if this is considered a thread hi-jack. Here's a link to some prior pic's:

I'd be interested! I always intended to make one of those gatherings, but for various reasons I never did... While I have ridden the Talimena Trail a couple of times, I've never been to Robber's Cave... Therefore I need to go there, you see, and this would be a really good reason to do so! At the risk of scaring folks away, put me down as tentative... weather and schedule permitting, naturally...

I'll be there unless the grandkids come home that weekend.

I'm planning to do that ride by myself soon & roll it into visiting my last remaining aunt who lives with her son in Mena.

Bruce, I'd love to see you there but going to see Robbers' Cave could be a little disappointing.  It's just a small hole in the rock.  There are some mighty fine roads in the area and the opportunity to climb on some rocks around the cave.  Good people has always made it a fun trip for me.

Not speaking for Bruce but, for me, it's all about the people, the bikes and the road.    Don't really care about the destination or, in this case the hole.  Wink   I am really going to try and make it if this comes to fruition.   cooldude

So, my question is, is anyone going to take the lead on this, pick out a date/weekend and put something together?    I'm not trying to be pushy on this, I hope this doesn't come across as that but, I sincerely hope someone local puts this together.   I'll do my best to make it.

I'm still interested.

September 23 - 26 is out for me and probably others - Bikes, Blues & BBQ in Fayetteville.

Otherwise I'm good.
