I have noticed this too. I want one but refuse to pay 18k for a 10 year old bike.

Our local Honda dealer had a new one on the floor as late as '07. I remember him offering it to me for 14K. Don't know how long after it took to sell or for how much. Don't wish I had bought it, but wish I had it.

kinda over priced IMO.
Just kinda overpriced? They're OK, but I'm still mad at the Rune for bringing on the demise of our beloved 6 carb marvels of old school hot rod muscle. That said, I wouldn't get mad if one was given to me.

The local dealer here in Hopkinsville, Kentucky sold several on ebay and they were shipped to Japan. Don't know what he got for them but he did make some profit on each one he sold.

Best bike I ever owned, sorry I sold it when I moved to Hawaii. Didn't think it would be practical. Fast and good-looking, went over rough roads like a car. Very heavy, but easy to get used to. Steve

That said, I wouldn't get mad if one was given to me. Just how did the Rune bring the demise of the Valkyrie? Well, Mother Honda dropped the ball on the Valk and put all its 6 cylinder cruiser eggs into the Rune basket. That experiment didn't work out so well for them sales wise, and it didn't work out for the classic Valk's evolution -- it should have been upgraded, back then, with the then new fuel injected 1800 engine.

Only the first couple years of the Valk really sold many bikes. The last 3 or so, the numbers fell drastically, and even then, dealers had a hard time selling them.
The handwriting was on the wall for the Valk. 7 years, only 40,000 or so? No profit maker for Honda.
The appeal of the 2 cylinder HD style bike was too overwhelming. The 1800 would have made a great bike, but the sales would still have been terrible.
We love it, but few of the MC buying public wanted the 6 cylinder.

Looking at that Ruin on the last link. You get a good side profile of the bike. The style of the straight header is what is missing on the new Valkyrie. Not saying the megaphone muffler but the open style crome pipe. Would put a little more flash to the new one which I think a lot of the older VAL riders see missing in the new. I don't see why they hid so much of the exhaust. I never rode the old one but it drew me in the first time I saw it. Always wanted one but when I went looking in 05 were out of production and I wanted a new bike at the time. My VTX was a lot of work keeping polished. The new VAL has a lot less crome. I live here on the west coast of Fla were salt air requires constant attention to crome and polished alum. One of the key features of most bikes are the exposed exhaust. They hid on the Valkayrie some of what could have added pezaz to the bike. They sure did not hide it on the Ruin which gives it the style. They also didn't tone down the engine either. But the performance and handling of the new on is right on.
