I'm not a big soccer fan either... but I watched it.  Those women were fantastic.  Got 3 and then 4 goals in very short order which, I've heard, is amazing in soccer.  Very demoralizing for Japan and they just couldn't come back from that.  Great game.

Well, based on the lack of responses to this thread says a lot about soccer's popularity, at least among Valkyrie riders/owners.    Most likely that has something to do with our demographics and age.

I'm happy for them, didn't watch, it's soccer.    But, as I said previously, to be world champs is a big deal!

Do they still have Wheaties?    If so, I'd expect to see them on the box.  Wink

It was a great game! I played soccer in High School and continue to be a fan of the game. While in the Navy, my ship had a soccer team and we played (and got our asses kicked) all over the world. We even got beat once by a girls team in Finland. Where I live now (Rochester, NY) is Abby Wombach's hometown and a hotbed for soccer. Congratulations to the US woman's team on a great victory.

it was an awesome night...my jersey girls came through huge.

All 3 of my children play soccer and my wife played for many years through college where she was a D1 player at Monmouth College before Christie Rampone got there.

Carlie Lloyd is from New Jersey, Tobin Heath is from New Jersey, Christie Rampone is a jersey girl as is Heather O'Reilly.

Several years ago, after we had won the Olympic Gold, my youngest daughter and her soccer team had the opportunity to meet Heather O'Reilly and Christie Rampone at a local soccer sporting good store. It was a spectacular couple hours and the women were gracious and fun to be with and made the young girls very happy.

Last nights match was just a huge accomplishment, so proud right now.

I tuned in late, it was already 4 - 0, thank goodness for replays.  Great game, Japan's ladies did not give up.  I coached youth soccer 25 to 30 years ago, so I'm a little more into the game than the average American.  Congratulations ladies...

Coupe du Monde!!... Congratulations indeed....... cooldude

Watched it from pre-game through post-game.... Wow, what a showing...

I had never played or knew the rules much less the skill and strategy involved until high school. Played on our first ever team in the early eighties. Only three schools in our conference managed to put together teams that first year. I've been a fan ever since. Glad to see it catching on more and more in the U.S. after all these years. The fact the women play too is just bonus.
