COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The South Carolina Senate has voted to remove the Confederate flag from a pole on Statehouse grounds.

The 37-3 vote Monday allows the state to remove the flag and the flagpole where it flies as soon as it passes the House and is signed by Gov. Nikki Haley.
The bill must pass a two-thirds vote, which is likely to be held Tuesday.

Monday’s vote comes less than a week after the 15th anniversary of South Carolina taking the flag off the Capitol dome where it flew since the early 1960s and moving it to beside a monument honoring Confederate soldiers.

Lawmakers had largely ignored the flag until the killing of nine black people during a Bible study at a historic African-American church on June 17.

Maybe the flag pole has to be removed as well cause it's white, upright and has never missed a days work?   Cheesy

No dog in this fight but, I think a referendum should be passed where the voter's of South Carolina get to decide.    Not politicians who want to get re-elected.   Too many outside influences but, I suppose the same could be true during an election.

I don't see the Confederate Battle Flag as racist but, I'm not from the south.   I think the Battle Flag should stay where it's at, the Confederate War Memorial honoring Confederate soldiers but, as I said, not my fight.

Some day, someone may decide that the Iwo Jima War Memorial is not politically correct and want to take Ole Glory down and destroy that monument.    That'll be my fight, it should probably be everyone's fight.

Signart's post is spot on where this is concerned. There are more lives lost in a single day or weekend in Chicago than in South Carolina. Where is the symbol to be removed there?
This is a picture perfect example of Liberalism/control at it's very best. Never let a good disaster go to waste. Great way to help destroy history and move on to re-writing the history books. One step closer to bringing the Southern states in-line.
BTW - I heard today that the Flag issue may indeed come up for a vote.

Doesn't work that way in this country any longer.

The wonderful state of California voted against same sex marriage, I believe twice, but state and now the supreme courts voted that all those people are wrong.

The city employees in Greenville SC voted on which days they should receive
as holidays.

A fit was pitched that they didn't choose MLK day, so their schedule was
re-written to get rid of one of the days that they wanted and add the
day that they needed to have.

Citizens were allowed to vote on Mississippi's flag... they'll need to be shown
the error of their ways soon, I'd guess...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the South Carolina legislature and the Governor's office Republican controlled?  If so, then how is their voting to remove the confederate flag a "picture perfect example of liberalism/control"?

By "caving" to the barrage of hate spewed by the lib talking points that you used to shut down that other thread.

If they don't cave, cities/states are boycotted which will strangle their service industries (you know, staffed by those they say they want to help), politicians and citizens are labelled racist (or whatever the ist-du-jour is), and then the President will call the ruling or someone.....stupid.  So they caved in response to liberal pressure and past experience.  If it was my state, I'd be voting for their conservative opponent next time around.

So Republicans elect legislators to represent them, and these Republican legislators overwhelmingly vote to remove the confederate flag, but it is the liberals fault?  Nice logic  uglystupid2

So, in essence what you are saying is the south is caving in and giving up their values and their heritage in order to hopefully secure some liberal tourist dollars, and that is somehow not their fault?

I'm not spewing hate.  Do you recognize that the National Socialist Party of Germany co-opted the swastika symbol, and it came to be synonymous with Nazism and racism?  You do recognize that the confederate flag was similarly co-opted by hate groups, and has come to be recognized as a symbol of racism.  That is why it offends people.  You really don't understand that?

A state senator was one of those 9 killed that Sunday in Charlestown. A black covering was laid over his desk/chair in the chambers during the vote.
A picture of the shooter with the confederate flag in his hand was presented.

I can only imagine how much influence they had on their vote.

Hey guys. Stop enabling the California troll otherwise Connie will lock this thread too. Let him believe he lives in the best state in the country. I have been to California. True they have great roads and weather. Oh and some friendly people (the CA troll is excluded from that list though). But the liberals have ruined it for the good citizens of the state....

California ?  Loretta Lynch should have the mayor and council of San Fran arrested for releasing that 5 time loser. They were told by the feds to hold that illegal alien felon dickhead and not release him. But being the great liberal sanctuary city  that they are they let him loose to kill/shoot that innocent lady.
But Lynch being as incompetent as her predecessor I doubt anything will happen. I'll certainly be surprised if it does and apologize if I turn out to be wrong. I'm not placing any bets on me being wrong though.
