My friend has a 1993 Honda Goldwing GL 1500 SE. He has been impressed with the mileage and handling I get on my 2001 Standard Valk and 2001 IS, because I went to the Darkside 5 years ago. He would like to know what size and brand car tire he can use on his Wing and what modifications are needed if any. Searching the web is confusing and I figured if anyone has the answer, you guys do!!!! Thanks for all your help you guys are the best!!     I've also posted this on the Tech Board so all my bases would be covered.

                                                Thanks, Kong

For the 1800 wings.

Yokohama Avid Envigor 195/55/16 just mount it.  (there are other choices).

Double darkside Battleaxe BT-45 front 130/70/18 63h.

If the bike is a newer Wing the TPMS might light.  This is from the different tire pressures.  Many reverse register their tires (Front is rear, rear is front) with a tool that is loaned. Others disable the system with jumpers.

Runflat or non-runflat is a hot topic at times.  Personal preference here, mine is no-runflat.

WWW.GL1800RIDERS.COM for info.

I picked up a cheap fixxer-upper 93 GL1500I last fall and put it on the road the first week of April. Since then, I've put over 9000 miles on it and really like the Austone Taxi Tire on it. (I really can't tell it's NOT a MC tire)

I also mounted a rear Pilot Activ on the front. I never rode this bike on any other tires, so I can't compare. I pretty regularly get 40 mpg when I can keep it under 75.

The only thing I have to watch is the rear air shock pressure. I had to turn around and pump it up more the first time I took the wife out on it. The plastic mud flap at the front of the swingarm can get scraped up (or worn through like mine) if you don't tie it back.

It is a little tall, but I'm 5' 11" and can still flatfoot it.

/Irony/ That 195/55-16 Envigor is EXACTLY what I run on my Valk IS. Accelerates quickly and I rarely exceed 100, so the top end loss bothers me not. /Irony/
