Tonight I'm having a little tipple of Shieldaif 30 year old single malt... Not bad for the price, and not often a 30 year old single malt falls within my budget...

Perhaps you guys have heard this one.

A businessman stops at a neighborhood dive for a drink.  A grizzled old man drunk down the bar watches him come it with curiosity.  The businessman politely asks the bartender if he has any 30 yo scotch, and the tender says he does, and reaches below the bar and pours a shot and gives to the man, and he drinks it down.  He shoots a hard look at the tender and says that was not 30yo scotch, it was Johnny Walker Red, and I'm not paying for it. The tender pours him another shot under the bar, and gives it to the man, and he drinks it down and again says, that was also not 30 yo scotch, but better Johnny Black, but I'm not paying for that either.  

So the tender shakes his head amazed, and grabs an old dusty bottle behind the bar, and shows the man it really is a 30 yo scotch, and pours him one, and the businessman drinks it down, smiles and says he'll have another, and puts money on the bar.  

Watching all this, the old drunk has turned his back for a minute, then turns back, sets a shot glass on the bar and slides it down to the businessman who, thinking it is his next shot drinks it right down, but then spits it out on the bar, exclaiming..... OMG that tastes like piss.

The old drunk walks up while the businessman is still choking, slaps him on the back with a grin on his face and says, yeah buddy it was.. so how old am I?

46%, I thought it would be hotter than it tasted. Smooth with lots of body. That bottle is my buddies but it's most likely around $60 up here.  I think it's worth buying......

The Machir Bay was pleasant, as a mildly peated Islay goes....

This one was farking INCREDIBLE! We're talking cherry pie in a bottle, if you can find it.....



And these two, covered in dust, are sitting on my shelf waiting for the right moment to be opened.... If you're coming to Inzane let me know and I'll bring at least one of 'em to share with a fellow coneisseur!

I will look you up in Athens. I'd like to sample your Scotch. Last and only time was approximately 35yrs ago and it was Chivas Regal  I vowed to never drink Scotch again. A few of you have me wanting to give it another try.

Wow, now this is a heater!
Very light in colour and opens up very nicely with a bit of water.
A little bit of sweetness that is more apparent after adding water along with a nice smoky flavor.

Trying to back off on the Scotch intake a bit, I'd switched to it from beer after my gastric bypass surgery since I couldn't handle carbonation at ALL.... Figured 8 years out, I'd give it a try, and  oh my a Guinness has never tasted so good!

Went to a wine tasting with the spousal unit inside the ball of Reunion Tower in Dallas last night..... Nice romantic date night...

She was, but we had a hotel nearby for a full proper date night experience while my dad stayed at our house with the triplets...

We put away two more bottles of Pinot Noir before bed time once we got to the hotel...

When friends come over, I put out the Cutty Sark, not the Johnny black and blue.  

Like 40 years ago, my dad gave me this gallon jug of Cutty, and a third of it is still in there.  It's OK, but it became more of a decoration than a libation long ago.  Dad liked Pinch.  My go to is John Jamison.  (simple pleasures for simple minds)

PSA: Don't try to relight a cigar that's down to the nub with a torch lighter after a few drams of Scotch.

(The specific Scotch in this case was some Ardbeg 10, and the cigar was a Perdomo Factory Tour Sun Grown Robusto)
