I'm in my shop working and minding my own business and my phone rings. It's my next door neighbor and he's frantic, says he's laying in the middle of the road about a quarter mile away and he needs help. I ascertain his location, jump in my truck and off I go to offer any assistance I can. I get to the crash location and sure enough he's still in the road but paramedics and deputies have arrived on scene. I asked him how bad it was and he told me it was just a good case of road rash but ambulance was loading him up and would I please see to the bike. He stores his bikes in my buildings so I knew what to do. I checked the bike out (Harley "Fast N' Loud" Marlboro Man clone) and since not too much damage evident and it started and ran, I figured I would just ride it back to my place. Risers were bent so handlebar was a little crooked but not too bad. I could save him a towing fee. Didn't work out so well. As I approached the corner to turn into my place, the throttle stuck and the bike shot out from under me in a micro second and down I went but luckily the bike and I were in the grass when we went down. Needless to say......lotza oompa loompas all over me. Punctures, hematomas, burns from the pipes or heads, I don't know but lotza ouchies. I'm on the mend but he's still in ICU. Seems like he had more damage than first thought. Doctor said he's in trouble with liver and kidneys, 7 broken bones and other extreme damage that the eye could not detect but the hospital machines could. What a calamity! Same bike crashes in less than 1 hour. Incompetence? Poor luck?

I think you're correct on that assumption. I can't type as rudely as the things I was shouting while on the ground.

I think that bike needs to be put down. With the bars/risers bent, turning the bars into the driveway probably pulled/pushed/maxed the throttle cable.

Trouble is, RJ, it needs to stop happening. I'm getting too old to absorb these hits. I hate myself for it but I can't wait to get back on my Phat Gurl and ride. Sick huh?

If you haven't had a CAT scan of your kidneys since your accident, I'd recommend that you do. If the blood in your urine is a bright red, you may have significant damage to one or both of them. Don't wait too long to either check in with your doctor or get to an emergency department for a routine urinalysis and exam; it'll be cheaper now than a urologist a month from now. Any back pain you have is significant at this point in time (assuming 8 days post accident). Are you currently under a doctor's care? If you've not been, please get checked out soon.

First of all; thanks to all for their concern. Took care of that this morning. Doc said that cat scan shows cysts in my left kidney burst upon impact and I don't need surgery. He says to wait it out and it'll self-correct. I'll be back to work Monday if the huge burn on my leg allows. I'll be ready for bike night next Wednesday. Thank you folks.

Is your bud out of icu yet? What caused the initial accident? Best wishes to you both for speedy full recovery.

slabghost, Someone pulled out from a gas station and to avoid the collision, he grabbed too much of the front brake, I think. He's out of ICU but is on oxygen to assist breathing due to the eleven broken ribs. His kidneys have started functioning again.
John, I didn't think a Harley had that much power but this one is a"Fast & Loud" bike so no telling what stage kit is in this thing. It is definitely both......fast and loud.

Glad to hear he's out of ICU. That's a positive move. Broken ribs can be a bitch. I hope the oxygen is not due to a punctured lung. Almost any bike is too fast when you unexpectedly crack the throttle open at low speed with the forks turned. I'm glad it's turning out no worse than it is.
