When I saw the rescue Seadoo pick him up, I expected him to be
leaking a lot 'o red fluid. But no injury at all.

Apparently he did have to go home and change his trunks, as he is now saying
that he may no longer compete.

Isn't surfing in the ocean a bit like running nearly naked through grizzly country dowsed in bacon grease?

You can't outrun a bear (for long), but you can make better headway on foot than trying to out-swim a shark in the ocean (and there are no trees to climb in the ocean).  You can sling a 300 Win Mag in bear country, what can you carry on a surfboard?

I always thought surfing was the coolest of leisure sport entertainment, but never lived on an ocean with surf to give it a try.  Closest I got was laying on an air mattress in 6-7' surf and letting it pound me into, then drag me down the beach.

surfing is one of those sports you best be a great swimmer to do.  I no way would attempt surfing without a life jacket on no way.  Those ocean waves are something to not take lightly, not that I would know only been in the ocean surf once.  Once was enough though to realize it wouldn't take long to drown.   Shocked
