That's like the where were you when you found out about the JFK shooting?

The night of the televised moon landing is very clear in my foggy memory.

I was waiting to be born 2.5 years afterwards... Wink

Now, the words "Challenger, Go at Throttleup" still bring back powerful memories for me...

I had 104 degree fever and was in bed but took a pic of the tv with
my polaroid of the liftoff of the Saturn V

I unfortunately did not take one of the walk
was too mesmerized.........

Amazing feat of engineering,  and of faith

Faith that the fuel would not run out before landing
Faith that the damn thing would take off

Sitting on the living room floor with my younger brother and Dad on the couch.
Watching on an old black and white RCA "Portable", and listening to Walter CronKite describe the fuzzy picture.
And feeling proud to be born an American citizen.

I remember it.  I was really young, but it stuck in my mind.  Somewhere I have a 45 with the narration of the landing on the moon...  Hugh Downs..  from ABC

After I posted this, I remembered the younger crowd might not know what a 45 is.  It was a reference to a vinyl record, in use prior to I-phones / mp3 players / cassettes ...   It was not a reference to a firearm!!    Roll Eyes  Grin

From the top floor of the office bldg. I was working in I watched and heard it take off. There was a short delay for the rumble to hit Orlando but it was unmistakable. The sound usually would hit about the time you could first see the rocket after it cleared the horizon from about 45 miles away.

I remember seeing the images of the Lunar Lander and the Men bouncing around on our Black and White TV...... Also remember the damn Watergate trials as they preempted a lot of Moms stories.....

I  was fresh out of the USAF in Charleston SC. Me and several friends gathered around a 17' bw Motorola. We were amazed. Dang time flies. I can't be 68 remembering that.

I still remember this also....

"We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people......

......We choose to go to the Moon!  We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win

I noticed in your list of "priors" you didn't include 8tracks but that would have raised more questions for some  Grin

You both are right!  I didn't mention 8 tracks because I figured I would have to explain that too.  And 78's  that really would be pushing it.  I have a pretty good collection of them myself.

Soon, the CD will also fade away, along with AM radio and a few other things.

I think I am stuck in the past sometimes.  I used to love technology, but I frown at where we are today because of it.

For thousands of years man thought the moon was made of cheese. We landed there 46 years ago and found out that it was only a rock. We haven't been back since.
Ahhhh, the power of cheese!
