OK, It's summertime, every once in a while we get a watermelon. I noticed that Judy and I have different watermelon eating traditions.
What do you do?
Judy puts salt on hers. I never have, so I tried it. Was OK, but I like it No Salt.
I use a butter knife to carve out bite size pieces and then stab them with the butter knife and eat them off the knife.
I also really like a light lager with my watermelon, so I popped a Fosters Oil Can and darmed near ate half that watermelon.
So, what is your watermelon procedure?

I take the whole watermelon, and bust it over my knee. Then I reach in and eat the heart out of both sides, then run like hell before any body catches me in their patch. It's the best.

Same here, see the no need for salt but never tried it so might actually like it better? Others have said use salt as well, but really never felt the need for it is good the way it is normally. Still remember 16-17 years ago when I grew a great bunch of watermelons in the garden and came home from work finding the 2 young neighbor boys age 3 and about 5 sitting in my backyard eating MY near ripe baby watermelons in their underwear. I still have that pic of them and show it to them every now and again to remind them of what little craps they were growing up. I chewed their ass off at the time but was funny though as well telling them to go home and not do it again.

cut it in slices and salt it is my way. but the best is to cut out a plug and turn a bottle of vodka upside down in it and let it drain in,, then slice and eat.

When I was in tech school in New Mexico some of the guys did that with what is called Everclear. Its like dangerously strong, but no smell, no taste so an unsuspecting person would never know it was "enhanced" It was funny then even though really it was not that funny a thing to do..........Kids!

Half it lengthwise with a sharp knife after it is chilled, salt it down and use the sharp knife to eat it with. Love em that way. Now how many thunk em to pick out a ripe one. Think its abut a lost art.

DW chunks it, eat with fork these days with a bit of salt. Many years ago when a kid, use to sneak into several watermelon patches and get a melon or two. In those days the farmers use to put stuff in the outside row that made them taste terrible and cause you stomach problems. Ones in the middle were the best. One night we got caught by a farmer with a 12gage loaded with rock salt. Thankfully I wasn't the one that got hit.

I've never heard of eating watermelon with salt. I might just try that.
I just saw a woman on Youtube using an iphone app that tells you when a watermelon is ripe. You enter size and color, then place the bottom end of the phone against the melon and thump it. The phone analyzes the sound and lets you know if it's good to go......crazy.

I thump them, use salt, cut em and cant get enough. Mostly seedless now, not as much fun. My brothers and I used to have seed spitting distance contests which quickly degraded into spitting at each other. Man that was fun.

Slice 'em thin, little salt then cut the thin slices into strips. Salt brings out the sweetness.

I spent the first half of my life salting my watermelon. In more recent years I have moved myself away from added salt on a lot of foods and found it tastes just fine, some better, without.
I prefer the melon quartered and then little bite sized pieces carved out one at a time, stabbed by the carving instrument and placed into my mouth. Nothing says good summer times like a properly ripened watermelon.
That dragon carving is nicely done, btw.

Same here. But then I sometimes take juice and whiskey and drop a few chunks in the glass. Sip the juice cocktail then eat the chunks.
