Aug 13th my wife and I are taking off on the Valk for 9 days and staying in a mountain condo in Sapphire NC. Going to be just relaxing and taking day rides out of there. Looking forward to it and open to suggestions about rides. I have some planned out but would like input. Also anyone want to meet up and ride would be great.

Go east, just a little ways, on 64... look for 281 (go north or south, north is really cool) and then not much further down 64 is 215.
281 merges with 64 for a mile or so, so you'll see 281 on your right (south) and then a few miles later 281 on your left (north)...
215 is good all the way to Canton. At the top it crosses the BRP.
There's a bunch of side roads from these roads...

I was on the BRP a few weeks ago and exited 215. At that time it was basically gravel over hardtop so I think it is in the process of being re paved. I went north on it a mile or so and turned back around to the Parkway. It is a great road when paved, though!

It is a great road when paved, though! 215 got paved going south from BRP not too awful long ago, maybe it is OK that way. 215 north from BRP is a pretty cool road, and there are some hidden swimming holes on that stretch... I've seen all the cars parked to get to the swimming holes, and people with bathing suits, when I've gone through there on holidays in the summer... I've never left the bike on the side of the road and looked for the swimming holes, though... -Mike

West on Hwy 64 to Cashiers and the http://www.thecarolinasmokehouse.com/Also there's a good grocery store in Cashiers, Ingles. From Cashiers you can go north on Hwy 107 past Lake Genville. In Tuckasegee turn right by the gas station on to Hwy 281 which will loop around back south to Hwy 64 In Cashiers go south on Hwy 107 to its junction with Hwy 28. Then go north all the way to Highlands. From there back east on 64 to Sapphire or continue on Hwy 28 / 64 to Franklin, NC. From there keep going north on Hwy 28 north to end up at Deals Gap. Not questioning your riding capability but some of these mountain roads have twists and turns designed to catch out the complacent. Keep on your 100% game and don't get distracted by the views.
