I just replaced the vacuum caps on the Mothership for the second time this year.  Building my '50 Chevy, I put some vacuum caps on the carb about a year ago and they're rotted all to hell.  That engine has never even been started, just sitting covered up in the garage.

This makes me glad that I'm no longer single and relying on condoms.  Yikes.

Ride Safe,

Seems everything has to be biodegradable these days.

I'm glad you don't have to rely on condoms anymore also  Grin. BonS made up some vacuum caps that he included with the DigiSync. I think they look pretty durable. Maybe he will chime in. cooldude

Only a thought. Any large electric motors nearby to generate ozone?  Ozone is hell on rubber.

I have a lathe, mill, grinder etc, but I don't think I run any of them enough to generate much in the way of ozone.  Nothing industrial in my neighborhood either.

Does the storage area have A/C?

Does it get super hot in there?

My street rod used to eat rubber caps like they were candy bars, until we put A/C in the shop.     That extended their life for about an extra 90 days.

Like Wayne said, everything has to be biodegradable today.

+1 on BonS's caps. I picked up a couple sets from him at Inzane and they look like they will last a while.

Yup had the same problem with the caps degrading so I bought some silicon hose put a plug in the end and cut it to size and have never had a problem again. Did that for all the vacuum caps on the Valk, plus any other caps I needed.

I have silly cone hose where needed, but I'll have to try using short pieces for caps.

Actually, what do I care, I no longer own MGM, but I will pass this on to my son who owns him now.

I know the other day he commented the mother f#$%^*in caps were deteriating.    Said he had one cap completly missing.

He was talking about putting SS lines on everything, brakes, clutch and etc. to get rid of some of the problem.

That will be his next project.    Right now he is building a motor for his Mustang that will put out somewhere in the neighbor hood of 1,000 hp.     He wants to go to Oklahoma and race the 405 Outlaws.   He saw it on TV and he is a street racer.

Goofy kid anyway.

he best be upping the hp to near 2 grand to match the 405 boyz from Okie.

no matter how fast you think you are,  there is always someone and something faster.

I like watching street outlaws for the most part,  but like every other TV show,  if it is illegal to do (just like running moonshine on that other TV show),  how can they LEGALLY make a TV show out of it without having all the people on it arrested?

Thanks for the mention. I've had pretty good results with my vacuum caps as they're thick walled rubber tubing that's quite durable. I haven't had one fail yet but they have begun to show some aging with engine heat.

That said, I continue to innovate and recently switched over to a new special heat-resistant formulation of EPDM cap that's good for 400° F intermittent service. And EDPM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) is especially ozone and aging resistant.

There's an ultimate material known as FFKM made by Dupont that is the ultimate material in all respects. When I can get it in the correct ID/OD I'll offer it. But it's 3X the material cost.
