Where I work it is often in the triple digits. I've been there 15 years so I'm pretty much used to it. Yesterday I spent 8 hours sweating profusely as I have for years. On the ride home I thought there was something wrong with the bike. It didn't want to track the path I wanted. I stopped to see if there was some thing obvious. There was. And it wasn't the bike. I was so dizzy it was a struggle just to get the stand down.
I ended up spending most of the night in the emergency room. Dehydration it seems was the issue. Heat exhaustion was the verdict. If you experience any moments of disorientation riding stop as I did. I was almost dumb enough to keep going. I'm so glad I didn't. I guess that's one OSHA class I'm glad to have attended.

I used to work construction in S E Colorado-Lamar to be exact. Summer would see over 100 degrees F in temperature and very little humidity. I kept a 2 and a half gallon insulated water jug full of ice and water and a healthy dose of lemon juice. I refilled that jug as often as 3 or 4 times a day. AND a time or 2 it was not enough liquid. Come home in the evening and have sweat stains past my knees. Figured out real quick soda WAS NOT my friend in the summer. You HAVE to keep up with your liquid intake in those high heat and high heat index situations! Glad you caught your self BEFORE something really BAD happened! And salt pills helped also. Again-glad yer okey okey!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

When its that hot I soak the evaporative vest (I keep in my trunk in a zip lock bag) in ice water
and at every rest stop I recharge it for a few minutes

I wear it under my mesh jacket  Heavy?  YES but sitting on the bike you dont feel it much

On the way home from Lacrosse I was ok even going thru Chicago rush hour stop and go (mostly stop walk and few feet and stop) while my riding buddy almost passed out and spent over an hour trying to cool off at a gas stop   If its triple digits I may take off the mesh jacket but rarely.

Glad you are ok   My rule of thumb is close to a liter of water or something with electrolytes at each 120 or so mile stop when its baking hot and if you dont have to go piss then you arent drinking enough

Check out evaporative vest and headgear and neck bandanas  They do work !

yep,, drink  up. 8 years ago my wife (who is a nurse) and I on the way to Sturgis just outside Chamberlain SD saw a motorcyle in front of us with a guy and his girlfriend on the back. It was 108 out on the thermometer and all of a sudden the guy just went down in the median and end over end. They both flew off but the bike landed on him. We stopped and made sure she had no life threatening injuries then got the bike off him. (he was out). Wife did CPR and he regained consciousness but was not in very good shape. Waited till ambulance arrived and went on our way. On the way home, stopped at the Chamberlain hospital and inquired and they were still there. Visited with them and turns out he was dehydrated and simply passed out.

If you aren't peeing every two hours you aren't drinking enough.

My Brother is visiting from Oregon. I told him he wont drink enough water.
He couldnt believe I wear long sleeve shirts.
If your mouth is dry, too late already. Get wet and drive, you'll cool off fast.

When it's hot drink a little but do it OFTEN.

If you're not sweating you are close to having a serious problem.

Stripping off a jacket etc will not help you keep cool. In fact the reverse.
