Seems the front tab is broken on my new to me bike. Can anyone post a pic of that tab so I can try to fix mine? I looked on ebay for another cover or at least a good picture but no joy.

Do a search for side cover repair.     Seems like there is one in shop talk, but I'm tooooo damn lazy to go look.

Had a 2001 Interstate. Tabs on the side covers were fragile.
I reinforced them with epoxy. Still broke one off.
Dealer had covers but too much money.
Took some Velcro and pasted one to the inside of the cover
and the other fuzzy side to the bike. Never had a problem.

When removing the side covers, you don't pull straight out on them. That will bust the tabs quite easily. Pull the back end loose first and kinda swing it out slightly, then disengage the front tab. It has a hook built into it and if pulled straight out, sooner or later that hooked end or the slot it goes in will snap.

Years ago, someone posted a fix involving a large staple epoxied to the inside of the side cover. The staple replaced the broken tab. Maybe that post still exists on Tech Board...
One of my Valks has the Velcro fix and it works pretty well...  Wink

The repair information is there to be found, and I'm as lazy as RJ when it comes to searching for answers to really common problems for other people.  I fixed mine using JB Weld and a paper clip bent and cut appropriately to use as rebar.

Thank you for the links! It's just what I was looking for. I did a few searches and missed both of those and read a few how to's in the tech section.
