Pain in the a$$. Wake up, get out of bed with the help of a cane, take two over the counter pain pills, sit on an ice pack for an hour while you read the paper and drink coffee, get up, go on with your day, as you will be feeling perfectly normal. repeat daily. Sux. Hoser

You need an injection if it is truly bursitis.

You need an injection if it is truly bursitis. +1 My bursitis created a calcium spur in the joint, which took cortisone injections and a guy to yank in around to break the spur - not very much fun, for sure. See an orthopedist, and get the inflammation in check.

He'd wait, get more miserable everyday, hobble around on a cane, until finally he'd go to the dr. and get the cortisone... Finally, I got it a year or so ago... I went to the Dr. within a couple of days, and am glad I did... the joint I got it in is the "sitting down" joint... bleggh... -Mike

I have it in my right shoulder, get the cortisone injection about once a year and it relieves all the pain. If he hits the bursa sack "just right" I'm good for 1.5-2 Years.

Hoser, had problem with bursitus in my left shoulder, started in my late 20's. 68 now. Discovered a wonderful product, DMSO. No, not MDA, that was another part of my 20's. DMSO is a by product of making paper. You can get it at any health food store. Plenty about it on the interweb. You will find some nay sayers but I call it a miracle of God. Problem is it does not help everyone. My understanding is about 3 out of five. Every pro ball team has plenty of it on hand. If interested pm me and I will tell you how I use it in conjunction with Bio Freeze It truely kills the pain. Larry, Atlanta

Dad had it along with arthritis. To say Dad was miserable at the end of the day was putting it politely. He was a local truck driver loading and unloading the truck all day. Looking at his face when he sat down or got up you KNEW he was in pain. RIDE SAFE.

Yup, in the right cheek....big time. My problem is the shots only give me 7-10 days relief, been going on for nearly two years. Dr. kept telling me I'm not a candidate for bolting in a new hip, finally ordered an MRI to be sure. Then told me he was right....I don't have the major arthritis damage he looks for. I asked how come I'm in constant pain then, he told me you don't have hardly any cartilage left on that side. Told him I thought that was almost the stupidest thing I ever heard; no major arthritis damage=no new hip, and liltle to no cartilage=still no new hip. So today I was back on the came most of the time. We make a lovely sight, the wife and me. We went grocery shopping....her with her walker and me with a cane. I got a catch in it at times today and almost went to the floor, pain was so severe. I'm looking for a new ortho dr., I need some answers and soon.

My doc said I had it once on the hip after a fall when playing ice hockey. Gave me a prescription cream called "Voltaren Gel" (diclofenac sodium topical gel, 1%). Worked awesome, and have had no trouble with that since...

Mine required surgery. I lost all up and down motion in my arm, couldn't even pick up a salt shaker. Had surgery 11 years ago and regained full use of my arm. Very long healing and therapy time. I would recommend reading up on those injections "side effects" before letting anyone stick the needle in you, I was shocked. Best of luck to you.

Yup, been there before. Definitely see your doc. Made just about everything I did painful, not I just have to deal with gett'n old. In my case, had two or three injections that didn't do a lot of good, finally the doc ordered an MRI, that allowed her to figure out precisely where to inject in my shoulder. She hit it dead on and haven't had that issue in 7 or 8 years. Take my advice, don't get old, fat or go bald.

I guess I`m one of the lucky ones. I have no pain in the morning or at all in the day ahead. I just have problem with having enough OX to get me to the bathroom to piss. I know , just a small thing, but when you can`t get a breath nothing else matters. Sorry for your pain and hope it will get to "0"People have a lot of pain in their lives and none is the same in their eyes. Sorry for the rant, not a good day. But, tomorrow is another day !

John cartilage loss is the reason to do a hip replacement! Have no Idea why he would tell you that besides a MRI shows soft tissues a CT scan is for bone. I would find another DR if I were you. A MRI would be good to show Bursitis but not cartilage loss. Most feel pain from Busitis on the side of the hip not in the butt cheek its self ,pain in the butt cheek usually indicates a low back problem. An arthritic hip usually (not every time but most of the time) pain is felt in the groin area.

Yep left hip greater trochanteric bursitis. Painful. Over the counter meds could not "calm" it down for long. Ended up seeing a pain management doctor, got a shot of cortisone, started clearing up in 3 days, 6 months pretty much pain free. The key is to also know the trigger and avoid or correct it. In my case I sit at a desk and part of it was just plain awful way I sat (slouched, twisting body vs chair, etc.). Cherry juice is a great natural anti-inflammatory too

I have been doing the exercises the doc gave me, and use an ice pack when I sit for a while. Seems to be improving, no cane needed in the morning lately. Is not an issue when I am on my bike, thankfully. Thank you all for the free info from you guys, I will hope it continues to improve. Hoser

What y'all describe is different than what I remember... out of nowhere a lump like a small fist came up on the joint where my leg connects to my pelvis... it was like sitting on a rock made out of yellow jackets. I went to the Dr. within a day or so, he gave me some of those opioid/acetaminophen pills, and I don't remember if anything else. A few silly pain-free days followed, within a week or so the lump was gone. It reminded me exactly of what my father went through, except for the part about suffering for weeks before going to the Dr... he waited so long once that they had to bring in a hospital bed to the house so he could be in traction...
There's some things the Dr. can nail these days, I'm glad I went right off...
