Trump sure knows how to travel in style, beats the heck out of the old 172 I did most of my travels in. I used to remove the right seat so I could sleep in there. Woke up one night to the plane moving up/down. Looked out and found a small bear rubbing his rump on the tail. Finally left, no harm done.  Wink

Gee, it kind of makes me homesick for the old C141 Starlifter (trash hauler).  I put way more miles in those than all my commercial flights put together.

And there were never any extra bag fees. And the baloney sandwich box lunches were only $2. (not a 141)

Yeah Jess, I have a "few" miles in one of those myself. Always tried to be near the front of the line to board so I could have something besides a canvas hammock to sit on. That really killed my back.

About half the time, they had a few rows of old worn out airline type seats bolted down, and they were OK.  But what I did most of the time was jockey for some floor space (often between or underneath tied down gear or jet engines in chocks), and make myself a pallet, get under a blanket and try to sleep.  The other thing I remember is it being 110* on the ground, followed by freezing your ass off at altitude.

Lot of time in C-130s too (noisy ass Herky birds).  Cool cockpit with lots of windows.

Well look at the bright side if he was elected president he probably would not be using Air Force One quite as much.  cooldude Grin

You know, really, one man through what he had in his heart and head managed to acquire all this and not be like George Soros who is O's mentor. One destroys one looks to the good of the country really a contrast of 2 wealthy men. We have seen Soros ideas I wonder what Trump would be like. It also makes me like Trump all the more, Soros wants to destroy the country that gave him his wealth while Trump wants to make it strong again.

Jess thanks for sharing that, interesting.  cooldude

Took a C 130 from Travis AFB California to Clark AFB Phillipines by way of Tacoma, Ketchikan, Anchorage, S. Korea, Japan. It was like a temperature yo yo going from 90* to 20* back and forth. Only to end with the coup de gras at 105* and 100% humidity. I was wrung out after those 18 hours and I was a lean and mean 20 year old. I think I'd be in the E.R. nowadays.  Shocked

Took a C 130 from Travis AFB California to Clark AFB Phillipines

That would suck.  Even though 4 engines (turboprop, not jet), the 130 was/is generally considered a limited area/regional (slow) transport, where the 141 was an any-distance (fast) jet transport.  All my long trips around Europe were in a 141, but most of my trips inside Turkey, Greece, and Sicily were in a 130.

There are a number of special ops versions of the 130 (guns and intel gathering) that are set up for long distance, but you probably would not have been riding in one Space A.  An overseas 130 trip would be rare, and likely they were moving that plane out to the pacific/PI on a permanent basis, and you just got lucky enough to be on it when it was moved out there.  crazy2

I was always traveling on orders (for temporary duty), which puts you at the head of the space A list from retirees and leave/vacationers, and with some contacts at my local bases, I often got on planes that were not even being scheduled for any pax (passengers).  So it was just me and the flight crew, and often an additional flight crew (being moved around like chess pieces).  They were usually chock full of gear, but you could always find a place to sleep stretched out.  Being the only passenger gave you a better chance to go up on the flight deck and talk to the pilots, get on the flight intercom and monitor radios, help out the cargo crew chiefs, and go in with them to file flight plans at layovers  (very educational).   I really miss those days (and that life).
