A bad map and a long ride in Northern New Mexico!

Jacksboro, TX

WWW
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:23:35 PM »

Trying to get the final things done, should be heading out weekend of the 24th (Aug), if all goes somewhat according to plan.  Waiting for my Brother-n-law to finalize work details.  If he bails, I am probably still heading out!!!

Where we are going is somewhere northwest of Jacksboro, TX (DFW).  Colorado, perhaps Yellowstone....  Depends on how the first day or so goes and the "feel".

I usually head to western Colorado, and it is heavy on my mind, but Yellowstone is calling since I did it last year in the pickup truck.  I said then I would like to ride more of it on the bike... so it is on the list of possibilities.

My wife can't go, she is stuck at the hospital for a mandatory move they are making, and she said she wasn't up to a long distance ride.   So can you say guy time!!!  She can't believe I haven't been planning details of stops and destinations.   But that is to me the best vacation...no set schedule, just an idea or notion.

I will have more details as the departure date approaches.. hopefully, I will run into some of you on the road!!!!

This will be the first long trip I have done in several years, and it is past due.  The old girl is ready, just polishing a few things and making sure she doesn't let my brother-n-laws HD Ultra hurt our 16 year old pride...

Lets ride!

I'm headed to Seattle on a work trip, we'll get there a day early. The folks
I'm traveling with have worked up an itinerary of what to do when, space
needle at x oclock, tickets for boat tour at y oclock, morning to night
planned out.

I like the idea of heading out without a plan but, I do like to have a planned destination in mind.    That doesn't mean I'll actually get there unless I've already told someone I'll be there.

Sounds like a good plan to me Craig, best wishes for a safe and memorable trip and don't forget to share some Ride Report pic's & tales.  cooldude

Be prepared for tourist traffic. I recently did a nice week long solo camping trip through Utah, Grand Staircase, Escalante, Bryce, & Zion in the FJ Cruiser putting that National Park Pass to work and had a great time. The hot spots were pretty busy, glad I had already visited most of them for the sites portion.

Dropbox is a great way to get your pics into the cloud every day so if your phone goes belly up you saved the memories

Hey Gary... good to hear from you.   We sure need to get a group together in NM one of these days.  It has been too long!!!

Oss...  I hadn't thought about a blog, but I may do that.  I used to post my trip reports on my website.  I had stopped because my ex-wife was using my website to needle more money out of me.. apparently I was having too much fun.   It didn't work out for her.. but I did stop my public posting of trip reports....

----

No firm departure date yet.  I am just wrapping up details getting ready.. including my Bluetooth project I posted about earlier...

Will post better details as I know them..

My brother-n-law and I should be departing Jacksboro, TX on Aug. 29 early a.m.   We are not sure how far we are going the first day, but I am sure we will make Colorado before we stop.   Then we will decide if we are going to cruise around Colorado or head farther north to Yellowstone.

I may try to do a daily blog if I take a laptop or some sort of computing device.  But as it stands, I probably won't.  I will post details when I get back..

Let the countdown begin..

I'm back (and have a cold and a cough to show for it  tickedoff )... The "touristy" things
we did were...

The Lock Tour... http://www.argosycruises.com/sightseeing-cruises/locks-cruise/

Me and a couple of others from my group stood at bow while we went through
the lock, it was pretty cool when they drained the lock.

The Underground Tour... http://www.undergroundtour.com/

The Monorail from the 1962 World's Fair... The monorail doesn't stop anywhere, it
has an endpoint near the motel we stayed at and an endpoint at the space
needle, Chihuly Gardens, and a Museum. The Linux Foundation always does
some "special" thing one of the nights, they rented out the museum the last
night and bused us all there. The best place to sit on the monorail is the very
front seat, the monorail goes pretty fast, and it is coolest to ride it at night.
