Me and my Valk at Freedom Rock

« on: August 14, 2015, 07:13:08 PM »

I guess that is what you'd call it.

Out for a ride this evening. Up at the Iowa Great Lakes. Not real great but it's what we got.
Anyway, on the homeward leg and southbound on the 4 lane about 1/8 mile from a major intersection.
The light is red. I am in the left lane slowing down for the stop and the guy in the car next to me SUDDENLY BELIEVES HE MUST OCCUPY MY SPACE AND TURN LEFT IMMEDIATELY! and heads on over.
I am rather annoyed at this of course and I hit all the brakes and the car horn.
You wonder where the police are at when this crap happens.

Well, he was pretty much behind me watching the whole thing.
He followed him into a frontage road and lit him up.

I'm sure they had a little talk as just up the road a couple of miles there were an incredible amount of LEOs at an accident scene. From the looks of things I believe a fatality was involved but yet to hear about it. So I'd bet the officer was looking forward to the chat after what he witnessed.

Score one for the good guys!

Yep, sometimes, it works as planned. Hope it was a wakeup call for the other driver!

Sorry to read about the accident, but that other part was SWEET! Rarely ever happens, but man, didn't have to ride by and wave?

Update on the accident. Some quick background. This was up at Spirit Lake, Iowa. This is where they have the Victory Motorcycle assembly factory. This week-end was a Victory based bike rally in the Iowa Great lakes area.

The accident. 2 motorcycles on the south bound lanes of highway 71 just south of Spirit Lake run into each other. At least 2 injured and sent to hospital. That is the current news so far. Judging by the LEO and First responder response there is probably more to the story.

Let me guess, two "experienced" riders who thought they were damn good and as it turns out, weren't quite as good as they thought they were?

I shouldn't jump to conclusions,  I know that but, I see a lot of cocky riders.   Me, I'm scared of my own shadow.   Well, kind of.  Hey, my shadow is pretty darn imposing.  Wink

Karma, I doubt it.   Inattentive riding a more likely suspect.   It's a shame folks die like this.

The karma part was the guy cutting me off and the police right there to see it. Not the folks in the motorcycle accident.
