in 50 years of riding I have never trailered my bike on a ride. However, now due to age and health I want to haul my valkyrie from So. Illinois to Gatlinburg and then do some riding on the Blueridge Parkway. What I am wondering is where do some of you who use a trailer for long trips park your truck and trailer?

If you are talking a pickup truck and a 16' 18' trailer should NOT be a problem at most hotels/motels these days. I have seen rather large motor homes with large trailers parked at hotels/motels. IF you are in fact staying at a hotel/motel-call them and ask the venue you would like to stay at. Some hotels/motels-NOT ALL-but some have semi parking. Again-call the hotel/motel you are considering and ask. RIDE SAFE.

Most of the hotels in gatlinburg have bigger parking lots and therefore will be plenty of room for your truck and trailer.

Also, if you aren't going the motel route and might be renting a cabin, let them know your needs and they will usually have something that will accommodate you. Some of those cabins can be somewhat of a hill climb to get to so you have to let them know you're on a bike. This is coming from experience.

I've always wondered about just parking somewhere in a parking lot or taking up 2 very long stalls (probably 3 depending on trailer size) and leaving the trailer hooked up to truck and camping inside the trailer as well bringing air mattresses or cots/sleeping bags to lay on the floor. I know this is not a long term deal, but for 1 night, not a bad idea?
Parking at hotels, etc. should not be an issue 99% of the time though just leaving your trailer hooked up to your vehicle.
I have enough camping supplies (no poddy/shower though or fresh cleaning water) though to make a go of it for 2 nights probably living in the enclosed trailer and just visiting public facilities when needed if nearby.
Spending 100 bucks say, rough estimate, for any hotel to just sleep in it at night seems such a waste of money although a full bathroom/shower and climate controlled is nice to have for more than 1 night.
Still toying with a toy hauler idea just don't know how much I would use it really right now until kids are outta the house. It would take a lot of 100 dollar per night hotel bills to make it justifiable to spend say 8-9 grand on a used, bigger toy hauler.

In my experience the hotels in Gatlinburg tend to have very limited parking.
The ones in Pigeon Forge are a little better for parking.
I would definitely call the hotel before I booked a room and ask them about parking a truck and trailer.
Also, Have you considered staying in Maggie Valley, NC instead ?
Access to the BRP is easier there and parking is much less of an issue.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just found out I my friend has a brother who lives in Sevierville, TN. He says I can park at his place which will work for me. Haven't made up my mind yet but I may end up riding all the way.....really hate the thought of seeing my Valkyrie on a trailer.

I've been told this is a Corporate policy to allow RVers to park in Walmart lots, they know if you're there, you will be buying stuff in their stores. Additionally, local PD will swing through there frequently during hours of darkness and when ever Wally calls them to pick up shoplifters.

I have used this place a couple of times. They are located on Douglas Dam Rd. Plenty of room to park truck and trailer. Never had any problems. http://139selfstorage.com/

Flashmac. Thanks for the info. I called them and set it up to use their lot. Locked in fenced area for $20 for as long as two weeks which is more time than I need.
