Today, I took stock of how many news stories online and on TV are bad from my point of view.  A LOT!  They far outweigh good news for me.  I realize that others might come up with a different view.

IMO, motorcycling was my way to 'clear the air'  . For the most part, I was successful when i rode. Driving the Miata seems to induce much of the same 'clear the air' that riding did.  It's a good thing since this forum can be downright 'down' for me at times.

Now, again, IMO, Note that I said IMO, the VRCC forum has changed.  What used to be viewed as PMS now seems to occur all year.  As a result, I get very little bang for the buck here.  Not much 'good' news.

The 'good news' here, like motorcycle talk and rides, seems to be in the minority and it's not very encouraging.   This is only my observation and it most likely is wrong.

So lets end it with two questions.

Does riding still give you that independent and free, change of attitude or not.?
Do you still like to read and respond on this forum?

This is not a survey, just ask yourself.

My motorcycle is still my "escape" from my problems, and I ride it pretty regularly just to clear the air in my head.    However,  even for someone who rides A LOT there is just so much that you can talk about and show pictures of that only pertain to motorcycles and rides.    There would not be very many posts if it was required that all posts were motorcycle oriented.   I like getting otheres opinions on day to day living and hot news topics.   Some on here don't like my thoughts and I don't like others thoughts but I do respect their opinions.    JMO.

I find generally that when I'm looking for bad news I find bad news.  I have been known to use riding to "clear my mind" but I've also been known to use riding to just get me where I'm going.

The implication of what I find is that when I'm looking for good news or even humor (without the u) I tend to find it.  I have had a solution for those of us  that hadn't been close to the door, but few would be willing to take it. God is good and people are mostly amusing.  I like almost everyone on this message board, excepting of course, Digger.   Wink  Look for what you want to find.  Life is more enjoyable than a lot of us realize.

Oh, I try to stay mostly away from the "news".  I find it most amusing what people think is important or meaningful to the public at large.

I log on to this board an embarrassing number of times each day, no doubt due to being new to the 1800 Valk and wanting to learn more about 'all things Valkyrie'.

I can do without the personal attacks, I don't think they serve anyone, and may keep some away from the board.  I also understand that's common on many boards, and perhaps unavoidable when a lot of diverse personalities get together.  In the end, there's no one on this board I wouldn't enjoy riding with.

I do enjoy the news on rides, accessories and pictures.  Hoping things balance a little more towards the 1800 as more of those are sold.

I don't own a TV and haven't since 2003.   I remember the news being mostly either things I absolutely didn't care about to any degree or misfortune.

Theoretically, there's lots of bad stuff on the news to either make people feel better that didn't happen to them or give people with no lives something to talk about.

When it comes to news, let's use airplanes as an example.

You never hear about the record number of safe and uneventful landings made everyday even though the very concept of 100+ ton aircraft floating around and gently coming down from the skies is astounding in it's own right.

But just one of the thousands of flights every day goes wrong and its big news.

Why? Because airplanes are not supposed to crash anymore.

So when good things happen it is not usually newsworthy but when bad things happen it is almost always newsworthy.

Now when it comes to this board everyone is presented with 3 basic options. You can post "good news"
or "bad news" or just watch the show.

If you like to post things and you are finding too much bad news, well then, post some good news.

I come to this board for companionship, news, opinions, humor, pics of sexy ladies and motorcycles, technical advice (both MC and otherwise). While I don't think the board has changed so much, as certain people have left, new ones have joined, and that resulted in a change of the personality of the board.  Yeah, there's lots of bad news, MC accidents, illnesses, death, there is also good news, dogs being rescued, MC's repaired, new (or used) MC's bought and sold, Hillery being closer to prison, you get the point.

I understand some people come here to only discuss MC related topics, and while they are important, there is more to life, and you can find most of it here.  Just ignore the stuff that doesn't interest you, you don't have to leave.

In a similar vein I used to keep Fox news on all day long in the shop, just to stay abreast of what's happening.  However for the last 6 years the news has pissed me off so much I at times am yelling at the TV.  Neighbors are hundreds of yards away except the closest is about a hundred - pretty sure they might hear and conclude I'm nuts.  Or at least a curmudgeon. I've found it's better to put on something entertaining or even lewd.  Like Howard Stern.  At least he usually doesn't piss me off.  Until he gets on one of his liberal rants.  Then I have to channel surf.

Nope I have a sadistic outlook on life and come here just to get bludgeoned.  uglystupid2 2funny

Then what Willow said, but along with that you choose how your going to be, why would you let circumstance dictate your happiness, or even this board?

Sometimes its nice to retreat from the world and go on a ride but heck I ride every day. In the mornings when the air is cool and slightly damp and it just smells good when riding to work. In the evenings everyone in their cars running busy on the phone or just driving trying to get home forgetting the pleasure to drive. There will come a day when we will not be able to. I was once in a place that I could not do that and I made a promise to myself to enjoy even traffic jams. I have kept my promise, I love every day, my motorcycle, my life, my wife and all my blessings. I enjoy this board and all who come here and post. Even the ones that I don't agree with but the diversity the jobs and lives I am always amazed at the talent here. Been here along time, and I don't belong to any other board. I have learned many things here and am thankful for this board. I am thankful for the cost  Wink  the workers the people the changes I cant think of a better board. Thrown into the mix is what life is all about. Hell if a post is aggravating me to much I can just pass it by, amazing I am in the drivers seat of my own viewing what a concept. Maybe the board hasn't changed, maybe you have lost what to be grateful for. An attitude of gratitude goes a long way, and its attitude that makes a big difference.

A lot of us are lucky enough to be able to ride one of our motorcycles
not only to work but also for fun

When its 90 degrees and humid I dont ride as much as when its 30-
40 degrees but each season in the northeast does have advantages and keeps
my head screwed on straight

Solo1 even a Miata can give you the rush that you need so enjoy it and dont look back
in sadness,  You can still put the top down and enjoy the ride

RJ hope you are getting out in one of your trikes with the portable O2 while it is nice out

When the snow flies the auditions will again start, you can count on it

Korean War veteran, 1953

I assumed "never assume" you were the tail end of WW2, that's what my father was "Navy Seabee's"....I thank you for your service and to all veterans that might be reading this!!!!

Sorry for the twenty questions I'm new here,  the internet is a very impersonal thing, so when I see a question like the one you asked, I like to know where you might be coming from....

So if I was a veteran, I would be enjoying everything that I would've fought for and living it to the fullest with what I have to work with....

Winter is coming soon, get your ass out there and ride and or something you might like to do before you start jones-ing for it when the snow hit's the ground ...."that's easy to say, we're going to anyway"

I think I'll close this thread on a more positive note.  When I started it, I was just starting to get some sleep after prostatitis robbed me of it. I also had to get a broken tooth extracted which had parted company with its $900.00 dollar crown.

Today, the peeing at the drop of the hat is gone and so is the tooth.(along with 400 bucks out of my wallet,  Smiley)  AND to top it off, I just read a very enjoyable story posted by DDT, our resident major miler at 488k on Ali.

This is not the first time that you have opined that the VRCC has changed.  Obviously in a direction that you disapprove of.  You've started other threads about it.

For whatever reason, that must really bother you.

I wonder why.

I understand some people come here to only discuss MC related topics, and while they are important, there is more to life, and you can find most of it here.  Just ignore the stuff that doesn't interest you, you don't have to leave.

Sometimes the discussions here do get a "little" out of hand.

Some People really need to learn how to disagree without being disagreeable.

I am a member of another board where "only" motorcycle related stuff is discussed and I have found it to be a VERY boring place.

I have seen that board go for days without any new posts.

And while I have met some people from there and found them to be likable, it just ISN'T a "FAMILY".

The VRCC is "FAMILY"!

WE have both formal and informal get togethers with each other.

A GREAT example is the upcoming "Meet In The Middle" ride.

I have yet to meet someone from here that I didn't like, even though we may disagree on some subjects.

It is my observation that some of the more abrasive people here are people that haven't bothered to get out to a ride or event and meet other people.

Apparently, It's much easier to berate others and call them names when you've never bothered to meet them.

Solo 1 I've had prostatitis since I was 28 I'm now 72, lots of fun isn't it?  I now have rosacea and the Dr. said the meds for it also helps prostatitis. Riding used to hurt sometimes but now I don't ride. Not riding also helped my sore thumbs. Damn I still want to ride.

I still love riding as much as always. Many times I spend 20 minutes of my 30 minute lunch riding. It gives my day a "reset" and sometimes even with my new job I need that. I have way less time for recreational riding than I used too but the valk is still my primary mode of transportation. It amazes me that after 46 years of riding, instead of getting tired of it, I crave it more and more.

The news is pretty much horrible most of the time. It will take years to repair the damage our country and the world have experienced in the last few years and some of it will never be repaired. Be that as it may there is good news out there too. Our gun rights are mostly stronger than ever for one.

The outdoors, the sky, the wind and the rain are still as beautiful as ever and always remind me to thank my maker as the world unrolls in front of my handlebars. Today is FRYEDAY, my day to keep my youngest Grandson Ryder, and for that and all my family I am eternally grateful.

I think the board is different mainly because of "facebook", I know I spend more time there and less here than in the past. It's also different for me because I now work 2 jobs and have less time for the board and for riding in general. I hope in another year or two I'll have a little more play time again. We'll see.

I hope the world and the board are a brighter place for you today my friend.  cooldude
