Hey everyone. I'm not on here much but I joined when I bought my bike. I have 98. I want to change the oil to a full synthetic. It has the wet clutch and everything. I'm just wondering what to put in. I thought about the honda oil but I did some research and seen people putting in Rotella diesel. I bought the mobile 1 diesel 5-40 thinking it would be better. Before I change it though I figured I'd ask some opinions. Thanks.

Is that mobile one sythentic 5-40 diesel okay? Or are you talking about just straight synthetic car oil. And if so any idea on the weight. I just don't want to screw this up. It's only got 10k on it.

Look on the seal, does it say energy conserving?   If so, don't use it.  If not, it "should" be alright to use.

Personally, I used Mobil One until I got a great deal on some Royal Purple.   This can be a hot topic but doesn't really need to be.    As long as it doesn't say "Energy Conserving", it should be alright.

Your Valkyrie has a wet clutch and that clutch uses engine oil.    Energy Conversing Oils will eventually make the clutch slip so, don't go there.

Shell Rotella T6 or Moble 1 is what I use. Usually on sale at Walmart and others for just over $20.

I know that some would disagree, but I wouldn't put 5W-__ in my Valkyrie, as I'd prefer that a little more oil sticks to the surfaces it is intended to lube when the bike first starts, before oil from the sump is pumped to those locations.  Honda doesn't recommend it even in the coldest riding conditions.  I run 15W-50 Mobil 1.  From the Valkyrie service manual:

I was thinking the same thing before I read your post meathead 2funny
I have always used the Honda line synthetic silver bottle but last oil change used Mobil 1 and noticed a bit of change in shifting as in a bit smoother. Don't know if it is just in my head or not but seems quieter on the shifts.

That's all you need to know.

Buy oil, pour it in, RIDE.

Change oil at correct frequency and RIDE.
