It was low 70's sunny and a light breeze off the Hudson when I left at 930 to ride

Went back and forth east then north then west then north then east
you get the idea, just enjoying the wind in my face till I found myself near the nuclear plant and the road to the goat trail,

Did see a few bikes at the lookout before Bear Mtn bridge and made the snap call to continue north on 9D past Garrison (where you can see West Point on the other side of the river) and up to Cold Spring

Spent some time just sitting on the pier watching the river traffic and then took 301 east to Fahnstock State Park
http://nysparks.com/parks/133/
In the winter there is cross country skiing there and you always have to be aware of critters large and small as well as people on bicycles
I had not ridden +40 or more over the limit  with the beemer in a good while so I decided to take the Taconic Parkway south to home.

There is no way to see troopers hiding on that road at any good speed so you
need a rabbit in front of you.  So I just sat on the side of the road at the highway garage on the ramp
for maybe a minute and a BMW 7series came screaming down southbound with a camaro on his tail.  Woohoo I got me a rabbit in front and I hauled ass.  Caught them in several miles then let them get a bit ahead and repeated several times till I hit Pleasantville Rd where I got off and returned the library books that I had put in the radio box of the 1150rtp.
You see I had told Bonnie I was going out to return the books as they were due today

A little over 75 miles detour   What she dont know wont hurt her

Now for the irony, when I got home there was a rabbit in my garden trap  So I took him to the River to learn how to swim. He or she passed the swim test and was last seen he was at the Croton on Harmon rr embankment hopping toward the State Park there.

Glad you enjoyed your ride.

But, you let dinner swim away.   Wink

I was going to let Cheryl read this until I got to the caged rabbit part.  She would never ever speak to you again if she saw that!  I got out both today and yesterday.  There are so many great roads around here, but unfortunately many are needing maintenance badly.  Hwy. 50 around the Blue Mesa Reservoir is getting bad, lots of potholes and dips.  It's still one of the prettiest dives in the state, and the twisties on Hwy. 92 around the Black Canyon are great -- as long as you can forget there are forest rat critters camoflaged within the thick stuff, peering at you and debating ruining your day as you merrily flash by.  Car show in town this weekend, lots of hot rods with their tops down testing the twisties as well.  Some nice American muscle out by the lake including this chunk of chrome.

I think I'm pretty lucky to Iive here, then I remember what Donalddcc (RIP) once wrote -- tell me that in December!

Glad that you got in a good ride today.

Noticed that you spoke of a breeze coming off of the Hudson River.

That reminded me of this:

http://www.ussslater.org/

It's a Destroyer Escort Museum Ship on the Hudson near Albany, NY.

I was wondering if you have ever seen it?

My Dad served on one during WWII, I hope to take the tour someday.

My dad used to take me and sometimes my little brother too on the Bronx Queen
an old sub chaser

Loved that old ship that went down a few years back   It left from Westchester Creek
which empties into Long Island Sound

Thanks for the memories 3fan   Maybe I will get up there next summer for a tour

Is, we were up that way last time we made a trip into the city to see our kids and granddaughter.
Headed up to a favorite farm of my daughters in fishkill where I lightened my pockets by $80 for some cherries and such. It's so nice being the father of suedo hippies living on the upper west side trying to live off the land. But that's another story. After we left the farm in Fishkill we made our way down to Cold Spring for lunch. Another economical adventure. Then we took that Road down the river and stopped at a scenic turnout just south of a bridge. I'm sure you know of where I speak. I was wishing I was on the Valk.
After that we took 9D all the way back to the city. Down through your town and all the rest, all the way back to Manhattan. For that part, I was glad we were in the SUV.

We're several months away from it being in the low '70's.   Sad
