She will be starting work in Mesa the first week in October. I will be staying back for a bit getting the house ready to sell. Had a realtor come by yesterday and got some ideas, mainly what we are doing anyway. We will be looking to rent out there for a while, trying to find a big enough place for the animals and getting super excited about a 2 car garage and dirt for a yard. Seen quite a few rentals that would be nice for the long haul if we could find one with a pool, but what the heck, cant have everything.

Thanks meathead,
We are both really looking forward to it.  She is really looking forward to working with her new team out there. I am hoping to get a job pretty quick. Her relo package has benefits for spousal asistance looking for a job...we are now trying to figure when I can give my 2 weeks notice.

good luck on the move and sale of your current residence.  Philly to AZ going to be pretty hot in AZ vs. what you are accustomed to.  Best to get a place with a/c and a pool both.  I guess there goes bye bye the change of seasons from winter to summer.  NO shoveling in winter is nice though and depending on yard thinking dirt no grass,  no mowing as well.

Right there takes 1/2 the chores away by living in AZ.  I wouldn't like AZ though too hot for me day in and day out.  You can always bundle up in winter most days, but going outside in 100+ degree heat in AZ you cannot run around naked, or can you??  laugh

My youngest and his family are in Gilbert.  We love visiting out there.  As a quick suggestion, I think them switching to a desert landscape was a good idea.  Green lawns are a pia out there.  the dogs don't seem to mind and it saves a ton of water and labor.

Congratulations.  If you're moving here, around October is probably the best time.  Temps are usually down to double digits and its starting to get nice.  Typically in the dead of winter, it'll be low fifty's when you get up and mid 70's by noon and it stays that way until mid May.  We get some light rain between Thanksgiving and Christmas and thunderstorms in the monsoon season during the summer and that's it (its sometimes hard to plan things with it raining every hundred days or so).  Whereas back east, folks use the winter for their indoor activities, we do that in the summer although it really doesn't start to feel hot to me until it gets above 105°.  Humidity in the summer is usually around 6%, unless it rains.  Even in the height of summer you can do stuff outside if you do it by around 10:00 am.  About this time of year, we're about ready for the summer to end.  You do have the heat to deal with, but you don't have to shovel heat.  We really like the outdoors here and one of the best parts for me is that there's a lot of public land.  That means that if you're riding out in the desert and you see a distant rock formation that looks interesting, you can pull over and hike out to it.

Keep in mind, the happiest day of your life will be the day you get a pool. The second happiest day will be the day you sell that house and buy one without a pool. If I had my way about it, I'd have ours filled in and the back opened up without the screen. Then I could have a nice back patio with little or no maintenance....and it would actually be used.

They are a pain in the butt to take care of. But I would be indoors all summer without it. After you learn how to keep everything in balance it's not too bad. A lot of people pay someone to do it also.  cooldude

We had a pool in Alabama and I loved it...but since we will be renting for at least a year, probably no pool. Maybe there will be that one rental that has a pool and nice enough to be a rent with an eye to buying it. Thats what we did with our house in Alabama, unable to sell, we have been renting and the these folks are renting and going to be getting a mortgage in April <fingers crossed>

RDKLL you might want to look at the many resort communities in Mesa or surrounding area that might have a rental. One of the community facilities would be a pool. Just a thought.
