The day started out utterly perfect...

Bill and Trish went down at at the very beginning of the parkway, some broken bones
and road rash and an ambulance ride... Whiskey and some others stayed behind
with them and the rest of us finally went on...

Dennis and Shelia went down about 40 miles later... with some broken bones
and an ambulance ride... after we finally got them taken care of some of us
got their bike and trailer taken care of... the Canton volunteer rescue folks
not only came up and rescued them, but we ended up being able to
leave their bike and trailer in the fire house for now, they were
great to us.

Mitch is on his way to them in the hospital at Asheville now, I don't know
as much about where Bill and Trish are, but they have DG and some
others looking out for them.

Hal and Roger and some others headed out of Canton intending to take
I40/I77/sr21 and still make it to Sparta. Stanley Steamer screamed on
ahead to catch up with and inform Joe and the others after Dennis and Shelia
went down, I'm pretty sure they're still headed to Sparta.

After we got stuff as squared away as we could in Canton me and
Randy and maybe some others headed for home.

Day before yesterday I heard from Dennis that he and Sheila were headin' out and was meeting his brother in Meridian and they would ride up most of the way but I did not know this had happened 'till I read this post. Thanks Mike for the heads-up. Now I'm worried sick. I don't have Smokin Joe's phone # or Mitch's so I did have Bruce's and called him. He's got all the numbers and will start checking everyone on my behalf. If anyone has any better info everyone's condition, please call me 985-502-7225 or post it here. I'll be checking it every 15 mins. for updates. Thanks, Gary

Yep....sucky second half of the day...Mike and I had a great ride up to meet the Southern group in Cherokee....it went downhill fast from there...after I saw that the Rangers had help on the way...I finally caught up with the front of the group to let them know what happened...I'm going to have to quit riding with the group...makes the second time someone right behind me has gone down...Dennis and Sheila were right behind me...

Oh man!  Hate to hear this!  Prayers for all involved to heal well and fast.

Anything I can do to help, just let me know.  I do have a trailer and nothing else scheduled for the next couple of days.  Would be happy to pick up bikes and people and deliver them back to their homes.

That's an awesome offer Bigwolf  cooldude

I got up in the middle of the night to let the dog out and read about them
not being able to find a motel in Asheville... I guess they rented a car or
something... down the hill past Hendersonville towards Greenville would have
been a likely direction to eventually find a motel... the other direction is through
the middle of nowhere over a big mountain pass to Johnson City... or I40, but
it doesn't bring you anywhere fast either direction...

Stopped to eat in Siler City and took a slide at an intersection I was not familiar with.  Road rash on me and the bike, not serious.  I headed back home.

Dang, Pluggy, I hate to hear this... I guess we were dropping like flies yesterday,
I've never been on a ride quite like it...

I never got in any rain the whole day, but was on wet roads a lot. Coming home down
the Rosman side of 215, the road was soaked from a real storm that had just blown through on
that side of the mountain.

Soaked and covered with wet green leaves and limbs, I felt like I was riding through the twisties
on ice dodging slalom poles...

Dennis called me late last night and said that they found a motel room. They are going to rest and then come up with a plan to get home. I will either go get them or someone on that end can get them and bring them down or we can "Meet in the Middle" and y'all can hand them off to me. I'm waiting for them to figure it out.

Damn, I just saw this.  Any updates on their condition?

Here's what I can do, I'm in South Carolina now.   Headed back to Kentucky but will be passing through the Ashville area.   I'll be happy to stop and pick up the bike and trailer on my way through and get it back to my place until we can work out the details to get it home.   I've got plenty of trailer behind my truck and plenty of shop space available.   Won't cost a Valkyrie friend a thing.   But, I need to know soon, need to get back home, the part time Boss (my employer) and my full time boss (the Spousal Unit) have given me all the road time I'm gonna get for a few weeks.

Seriously, let me know, if I can help, I'm glad to do so.

Any updates on their condition?

I hear that all four are out of the hospital. I'm praying that means
"just" broken bones and bikes, and none of that "busted up inside"
stuff...

I was behind Dennis and Shelia when they went down, and saw it.
My camera was set on "every five seconds". Everything that happened
to them happened in between clicks. When it happens, that's how
fast it happens.

Just read this very distressing report this AM...

While it seems like much is in hand I live about two hours from the area and have a 5 x 10 utility trailer.  Sounds like my best contribution might be to be part of a longer term plan to help get a damaged bike from Point A to B.

Reaching me is touchy through Tuesday noon, but use my profile email or PM me as I'm checking several times daily.  Will certainly try to help...

I just got off the phone with Dennis.

He and Sheila are doing as well as could be expected. Sheila with a broken hand and cracked ribs.  Dennis said using crutches while ya got a broken rib is a challenge.  Just thinkin' about that makes me wince.

Apparently Dennis's bike is in decent ride-able shape.
They have a plan to get home.  Mitch is with them.  Mitch is going to ride Dennis's bike with trailer back to their home while Dennis drives a rental car back.  Then Mitch will go back to Asheville to get his bike.

Dennis sounded a bit worn but was in good spirits.  He was a bit emotional about all the care and concern and the offers of help.  The VRCC is truly a great bunch of folks!   cooldude

I heard that DG made it to Sparta by the end of the day. Until people get back to

maybe Bill will get on line...

I just now talked with Bill.
He and Trish are home.  Trish has a broken wrist and a boot on her ankle.  Bill has a couple of broken ribs.  Bill seemed in good spirits and was more concerned about Trish than himself.  They are sore and beat up but trying to get some rest today.

He said he might get online later to give everyone an update.

I pursued this up to the point of speaking with Dennis also.    Oss volunteered to help me.   I told Dennis I'd be glad to help but, he already had a plan to get his bike home so, I left it at that.   I've been delayed in North Carolina now and won't be leaving until tomorrow morning.   I'm near Lake Lure, pretty close to Ashville.   Should anything change, let me know, the offer is still good to get the bike and trailer and take them both to my shop in Kentucky.

I'm out of road and travel time for a few weeks but, will hold the bike for you in my shop and it won't cost you a dime.   We can figure out the details on how to collect it at some point in the future.  Just an offer, do what you need to do but let me know early if you need something.   More than happy to help out.
