A friend asked me a couple questions that I couldn’t answer.

His employer has offered him a job in Italy.  The offer includes shipping an automobile and a motorcycle.

Question 1.  Is there any law or other restriction preventing him from importing, insuring, registering or operating a Honda Valkyrie in Italy?  Something unique about the phat gurl that becomes a no-no vs. any other scooter?

Question 2.  In case he gets an urge for a Moto Guzzi or Ducati, what would a very clean 97 Valkyrie Standard sell for in Italy?  Should he sell here before he leaves or take it over and get a few extra euros in his pocket?

That's interesting, I was just looking at one of my relocation packages. It stated specifically - "No Motorcycles".
That's cool he can take his  cooldude
Don't know the Italian laws, but I know Valkyries are ridden in Italy.
If the company pays to import a Valkyrie to Italy, I would let them. Then I would sell it there for more than its worth here and buy a GUZZI!  cooldude

IIRC Lamont Bryden aka LaMonster went there a dozen or so years ago to work with the guys developing the gear sets for the Valk which apparently they ride there. He had a funny story about riding bitch with a maniac who scared the piss out of him.  And if you know Lamont, that took some doing.

I would check with their version of the MVD for lighting and exhaust requirements. Maybe noise and/or emissions is an issue.

There is probably a good deal of info on vehicles, importation, insurance, rules and regs if you do some web research.

When traveling, I always started with US State Dept information.  (But that won't likly answer all your questions).  I've been to a place that will charge you with black marketing and jail you for selling your imported vehicle in their country (actually, the way it works is if you don't take it with you when you leave, you don't get to leave either... charges and possible jail follow).  Italy is probably more laid back, but it always pays to do your homework up front.

That's a riot, I've read that before some years back and still get a chuckle out of it.  Thanks for posting the link to the Death Ride. Wonder if LaMont had to change clothes before boarding??   Grin

I can't answer specifics about Italian import. What I can say though is a Valk is worth a lot more in Europe than in the US. The typical price for a Valk on mainland Europe is €8000-10,000 which is $9000-$11,000. In the UK the price is around £6000 which is around $9000 so if he can get it imported he will make money. The headlight will be fine as you drive on the same side of the road as Italy, he may have to disconnect the front running lights as they are amber, that is what is required in Spain and UK.

Hope this helps.
