VRCC #437 "Form follows Function"

Colorado Front Range - elevation 2.005 km

WWW
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:39:01 PM »

Counting from the first day of the 28 that Linda Lohn at Haulbikes said, would be the latest they would deliver my new Tourer.  Which right now is still in York PA, almost on east coast, where they took it a couple weeks ago, 716 miles FURTHER AWAY from where they picked it up in Michigan.  Meanwhile, Toms' Valkyrie, who was sitting with mine in the warehouse in York for about the same time, is being delivered tomorrow.  He's North of Denver.  They could have put them both on the truck. Now they say they have not scheduled a driver for my bike - who knows when it will get here.  And Andrea, the office manager at Haulbikes, is full of excuses and lies - tried to tell me they promised it on the 17th - NO - THE CALLS ARE RECORDED. And that will be 37 days - assuming they don't slip the date again.  "Bad weather problems, breakdowns, don't understand why you are upset"- BECAUSE THEY LIED.  And promised to keep me in the loop daily but there has been no emails or calls. Then deliberately read back to me, my email addy with a typo, then hung her hat on that as to why no contact.  Right.  Never mind my repeated emails.  And did you lose the phone number too?  How about responding to my requests for status?  Nope.  Just ignore me.  But they took their pay out of my credit card immediately and in full.

I have a list of mods to do.  And nearly all the parts.  BUT NO BIKE.

Try to look at the bright side - I have pipe orders I'm working on, don't need to be distracted by Chromatherapy I might like to do a little bit daily, after official work.

Something smells fishy.  If they lied to you about the schedule for delivery; what's gonna stop them from lying to you about a couple of things: is your bike ok and in the location that they say it is or is it missing?
Next email, maybe asking for a picture of the bike wouldn't be out of line with a direct question of "Is it missing or was it damaged in transit?"
No response to that one might be a red flag for a review of your contract with them and chat with a lawyer? Angry
Hope a resolution arrives soon for you in the form of a truck pulling up to your residence with the goods.

Would you like us as a group to help out with a couple of emails to them? Make them aware of just how powerful a tool the internet is.
We also have the ability to email folks on our email lists and let them know about this business.
Am sure you keep a data base of all those who you have supplied pipes to as well.
Several of us are active members of other motorcycle forums as well. Would be happy to put a bug in the ears of those in the other forums. Bad news travels fast!
One of my old bosses told me one time that "It takes about ten 'atta' boys to erase one awwww $hit" Sounds like they have the latter down pat.

May be nice of you to give them a link to this thread ........jus' sayin!

Looks like the reviews were spot on, free to leave a bad review via Google maps.

Just look them up via the Google Maps App and leave a review.   Very easy to do.

Mark,
I'm really sorry to learn of this.    Spreading the word is one of the best ways to effect their business.    You might contact the better business bureau also.

I will do what was suggested above and contact Haul Bikes.    I will let them know how much bad press they are getting from this failure and ensure they know that I would never use their services.

Edited:  Went to their site and looked for an email address to contact Haul Bikes.   If it's there, then it's well hidden.    Only choices I saw were to call or to fill out their form.

What I did note was the picture they provide of their semi-tractor/trailer.    My guess is, that trailer will hold at least 20 to 26 bikes.   Obviously, they don't want to head west with only a few bikes in that big ass rig.    So, my guess is, you are simply on hold until they get a full load of bikes headed that direction.    I face this issue all the time, frequently I end up deadheading back home because I couldn't find a back haul but, I've never missed a delivery date.    A man's word is his bond and I keep mine.    Realizing it's too late to do much about this but, should you need something else transported that direction, give me a shout.   Can't say I can definitely do it but, I'd give it my best shot.

York isn't too far from my place in Philly... do you need someone to stop by and take a look at the bike- make sure it is there PHYSICALLY.

"But they took their pay out of my credit card immediately and in full."

I thought there are credit card laws against doing this? not allowed to charge until full services are rendered.  suggest u call your CC company.

Unfortunately, that is not correct.   Ever order something via the internet or use paypal?   The vendor gets their money just as soon as the transaction is done.   That doesn't mean you shouldn't call the CC company or even challenge the payment.   But doing either will end up with the shipping company holding the bike until they get paid.

As Mark mentioned my bike (big thank you to Valkjerk for selling it to me by the way!) It was picked up on Aug 16th from Gary's house and delivered to me today, Sept 10th. This was my first experience shipping a bike. My shipping rep Chris was nice enough and professional to talk to. And did contact me. Unlike Mark's experience!

Here's the email chronology from Daily Direct HAULBIKES:

Mon 8/3/2015 3:55 PM
"Hello Tom,
This document has been signed by Tom and Chris and is now complete.
  Filename: CONTRACT_Standard_rev040312s.pdf
  Reference #: 48J8GDJ7UII3D97ETXTBVG
  Subject: Shipping contract
Message: Thank you for your interest in Daily Direct, HAULBIKES. As long as your unit fits within  4’wide x 9’long x 58”high, the quote for your shipment is as follows: LA   to   CO  à       $499
Your quoted estimated timeframes are 10-12 for pickup and 2-3 weeks for delivery based on the return of the contract by the end of business day.  If the contract is submitted after the end of business day today, your timeframes will be adjusted based on availability.
If the unit you are shipping exceeds any of the above stated dimensions, there are additional fees.  We cannot ship any unit that exceeds the height of 58”.  We ship bikes in an 80 foot semi-tractor/trailer and the trailer is fully enclosed. We do not crate or palletize and there is no need to disconnect the battery or drain any of the fluids.  All units must roll and we would prefer that the keys be shipped with the unit to ensure proper pick-up and delivery of the unit. We can only take the bike/unit itself and not any other boxes or extra parts. Anything that is in a storage compartment will be shippable.

The price above does include $15,000 worth of insurance and a $500 deductible.  You have the option to increase the insurance and / or eliminate the deductible.  Please see the details on page 1 of the contract.
Our drivers provide detailed inspection reports to the shipper and receiver with each move. For logistics and security, our trucks are satellite tracked.

To proceed with this order you would need to fill in the attached contract and send it back to us. This quoted price is good for two weeks only, and includes the current national average fuel surcharge. Any time frame quoted estimates that have been provided to you are quoted estimates and are subject to change depending on the circumstances when you return your contract back to us.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me or contact us toll free at #1-888-428-5245. We are open M-F, 8:30 am – 5 pm, and Saturday 9 am – 3 pm, Central time.
Thank you!"

"Hello,
Thanks for contracting Daily Direct to haul your motorcycle.  Your order has been verified and has now been entered into our system as an order. The order number P83319.  My name is Chris and I will be your representative throughout the process.  I will update you at every stage to keep you informed in our process.  If you have any questions throughout the process I can be reached by e-mail or at 1-888-428-5245. Your bike has been assigned to be picked up between the dates of Aug 10-12.  The driver Greg will contact the pick-up location the day before to make more specific time arrangements.  Your quoted estimated delivery timeframe is 3- weeks.  Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Chris"

Tue 8/11/2015 3:46 PM
"Hi,
The driver’s truck broke down and a new driver is heading to the truck to re-load the shipments. As soon as I have the new information for the 3- day window, I will let you know. Sorry for the delay with your shipment.
Chris"

Mon 8/17/2015 4:09 PM
"Hello,
I just wanted to update you on the status of your shipment, order P83319.  Your bike was picked up on Aug  16  .  Your bike will arrive back at our York PA terminal between the dates of Aug 19-21.  After it arrives we will have a better idea of what truck we can put the bike onto for the fastest delivery.  Your quoted estimated delivery timeframe is 3- weeks.    Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!"

Fri 8/21/2015 3:30 PM
"Hello,
I just wanted to update you on your order P83319. Your bike has arrived safely at our Wisconsin terminal. At this time it is being assigned to a driver for delivery. As soon as it is assigned to a driver for delivery and that driver leaves out I will be able to give you a delivery eta.  The quoted estimate for delivery is 3- WEEKS.   Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Chris"

So it took from Aug 3rd to Sept 10th to get it to my door after the contract was signed. One thing Gary and Trout Dude had to do was remove the windshield because the IS was too tall to fit in the double bike high trailer.  It did arrive in good condition, all be it dusty. I looked inside the trailer and it looked like they did a good job of tying it down. The driver said that was probably from sitting in the York PA warehouse. The driver told me that the Harley in the trailer was his and that they can take their personal bike with them. He'd only been with the company for 2 months and seemed like a nice guy FWIW. I'm thinking that space could have been occupied better by Marks bike!

Although I really wasn't in a hurry to get it, I'm not sure the hassle of shipping was worth it for me and I drought I'd do it again. The stress of wondering where it was and if it was OK was difficult. Gary offered to have me fly down and pick it up which in hindsight might have been a better route to go!
Tom
