You don't understand the fanaticism of the cult that is A&M... That's okay, I'm exposed to it every day and I don't understand it either... Wink

Oh, and it's professional not collegiate, but the new Cowboys Stadium cost $1,200,000,000 (1200 million, or about half the GDP of Liberia)

Heck, not just colleges either, the city of Allen, just north of Dallas, dropped $60,000,000 for it's high school stadium. (Which had major foundation problems right after opening and had to be closed for a year and a half to repair the thing.)

I have no clue how much money they sink into our stadium, but
they've been building stuff onto it the whole 30 years I've been around here...

Here's an architect's picture of a new giant round tube shaped thing that they
were adding on when I drove by there a few weeks ago...

Now there is money well spent! They should get their return on the money spent in about 2 centuries? Why would a HS team need a stadium like that. Where did that expense come from?  IF someone could splain that to me I would deeeeeeply appreciate it.

College players get into trouble for selling their autographs yet the NCAA Makes millions from their endeavors.

NFL is run as a charity. What a joke.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/nfl-enjoys-non-profit-status/

Seems you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Atlanta Falcons are building a new stadium at a cost of about $ 1/2 billion to taxpayers.
Old stadium was built in 1965 so ancient by todays standards.

Atlanta Braves are building a new stadium at a cost of about $300 million to taxpayers.
Old stadium was built for the 1996 Olympics. Must be worn out  2funny

I'm sure these initial estimates are on the low side.

And the jock sniffers will smile as they hand over their hard earned dollars.  Cheesy

I agree with what you are saying. But how can you justify it for a High School Team!?

Do they charge to watch a high school game ? It's been a while since I've been to one but I don't remember paying to watch.

Wow, my HS field had old wood bleachers on both sides of a mud hole (if it rained).  Five minutes into the game there was only one uniform for everyone on both teams.  I would have to come out to clean the mud out of my helmet so I could see to play.  Later when subs got on the field with a clean uniform, everyone wanted to hit him.   Grin

My favorite field.

What I want to know, is how does one get a 12lb, five foot hot dog back to their seat?   Order one with a Viagra injection?

I'm sure they have 100% Graduation Rate

That made me curious so I looked it up. In their defense, Allen High School has a 99% graduation rate.

Do they charge to watch a high school game ? It's been a while since I've been to one but I don't remember paying to watch.

Looked that up too... $10 per person to get in, $6 adult or $4 student if you buy early online.

Now for those who aren't familiar with the Texas Friday Nights experience, some people say that high school football in Texas is a matter of life and death.

They are incorrect. It's not. It is FAR more important than that.

(Explaining the situation, I personally don't like it and think sports should be removed from education, but that's just me.)

I understand why people feel that sports shouldn't be part of the education system. But looking back I think I learned more and better in sports than I did with the academic side of school. Being part of a team and also being part of a solo sport has been invaluable through out my life. There are a lot of things that kids learn about leading and following and goal setting and achievement that apply forever . There is so much math and English stuff that I haven't used since I left school.  Smiley

Another thing, a whole bunch of football and other scholarships go to guys who could never begin to afford a university education, esp at the big name schools that have the money to spend.  Assuming the coach and school actually ensure they go to classes and graduate.

Also, it was my experience that years of sitting in classrooms and libraries studying and the stress of academics goes a lot better if you get out and run your ass off or get some other aerobic exercise from time to time.  Later, the Air Force insisted I run my ass off, from time to time.

Paul, what exactly is a Rugby ...... Tight head prop?

This is the only thing that comes to mind.

although I think sports are somewhat important to those who want to do them,  most schools nowadays place WAY, WAY too much attention on them by far, even at the high school level.

I still say if cannot in high school or college maintain a 3.0 GPA,  NO sports allowed.

About the ONLY thing I missed in high school was playing football was super fun game time, not so much the long practices.  That being said, it is still just a game and for most, has NO bearing on what you do afterwards in life.

3 man front row of the scrum
Left side.
My head would be sandwiched by 2 heads of the opposing front row.
Hence tight head as opposed to the guy on the other side of the 3 man front row who only had an opposing head jammed against his left ear.

I figured it was something like that.  cooldude

We had a fullback like that, once you tackled him a couple times, you didn't want to do it anymore.
