I am looking for a new video camera for bike. First let me say that it will NOT be a Go-Pro. I will not pay for their advertising. The camera cannot possibly actually cost that much.
My current camera is a Sony HDC-AS20. It is a nice camera that comes with a waterproof case. The waterproof makes the audio sound like the video was recorded in a big steel drum. Without the case, there is really no way to mount the camera. The waterproof case has a tripod mount but the camera does not. So I bought the 'camcorder' option for the Sony. It has the required tripod mount along with a very nice flip out color display on the side. The problems with the Sony are:
1. Tends to corrupt the video ever so often.
2. Cannot pause the recording, just start and stop.
3. The built-in microphone is very sensitive with no way to control it.
4. With the camcorder body, you have to take the camera out to change the battery.
5, With the camcorder body, it adds quite a bit of bulk and weight to the setup.
6. I can actually control it with my windows phone with an app called Scrap. Start, Stop, see the video the camera sees.

New stuff is coming out all of the time.

Which camera have you used that has really blown you away?

Flywire.com a buddy owns the company I have never seen nor used one.  Might check them out.  Another friend has a Go-Pro, I know you said you don't like them but they are slick.

I've looked at these but have no idea if their any good.  might be worth trying for the price though.

Resistance is futile; if less than 1 ohm.

You might also look into this one.  I caught it on sale for less than this, but I got it to replace the Go-Pro that broke its mount and fell off somewhere in Montana last July.  So far, I can see no difference between it and my Go-Pro; except for price.
