I went to a sidecar rally this weekend with 6 other guys.  We had a blast sitting around telling lies all weekend.  We all pitched tents and braved the rain, ate well and just plain goofed off.  The strangest thing happened to me on Friday night.  I got out of my tent to take a leak and thought I saw something glowing on the ground, flipped on  my flashlight and nothing was there.  After a second I saw the glow again.  So I walked over and to my surprise I found some glow in the dark mushrooms, they were everywhere.  It was really wild if you looked right at them they dissappeared (due to your night vision being in your peripheral vision) if you looked slightly to the side they reappeared.  I had to get my dad over to verify.  Of course no one believed us until later the next night I showed all the guys with us.

Anyone ever come across them?

I did some research and found the reason they glow is to attract insects to lnd on them to help spread spores.

Anyway just thought I would share.

I've had the same experience looking at distant or dim planets.  If you look right at them, you cannot see them, but they appear in the periphery.

I hope you weren't eating any of those magic mushrooms.   Grin

Not that I would ever, ever question your word on anything Shane but, my advice is to stick with that story.  Wink    I remember our conversation the other night and you mentioned the beer and cigar nightly routine.    angel

I found an article on this.  Interesting quote:  Making light isn't actually all that common in fungi — scientists have described about 100,000 fungal species, and only 71 glow.
