I have installed columns like those ( wood) many times over the years; be sure and mop the inside with paint or sealer,

While you do have a disclaimer at the bottom of the read about the door I duz have a question.  Roll Eyes Do Rhode Island KNOW-I mean REALLY know they be in hock fer yer door?  2funny Hellz bellz-folks down here be floatin a loan fer a dozen eggs-I can NOT imagine what finished wood and "serious door" have set ya back!  Embarrassed And I DUZ NOT wanna know-I'd calculate that cost to ridin time and cry a lot!  Cry RIDE SAFE.
