it's a great plane.
as for the video, I have no issue with the President using it for his travels.
we never know when disaster will strike, just look at 9/11 when Pres.Bush was in Florida.
I don't know if this will be a good example, but a couple years ago, our Governor, Governor Christie was in Florida with his family on vacation...Disney I believe @ Christmas time. We had a severe blizzard here, he could not return and was blasted for it in the NJ media because for reason, this day in age with all the availability of instant communication, his physical presence in NJ was more important than the orders he was able to give out whether in FL or NJ.
So where any POTUS goes so does AF1, the Secret Service goes as well as other members of the staff and all his presidential necessities including car, Secret Service transport and helicopter. Af1 is his office and security, i'm sure there is a nice armory on board no matter where in the world he goes.

Mike you seem like a sensible guy. Would you mind buying the wife and I tickets to Hawaii? $6,000 should do it. If the prez is on vacation he should buy his own damn tickets. FYI his home when he was elected was Chicago not Oahu. I say fly him back to the south side and let him figure it from there.

Should NOT be used for personal business or fun. He wants to go golfin-pay for it himself. No doubt back to Ike Air Force One has been misused. This current potus seems to have it down to a science-misuse. RIDE SAFE.

Come on now, if we were President of the US, we'd do the same darn thing now wouldn't we? I'd be curious though comparing expenditures of personal matters of the past say 30+ years of US Presidents say back from Jimmy Carter era until now regardless of inflation. My guess is the current Pres. has used it the most for most personal pleasures. I could be wrong, but am sure Carter and Reagan used the plane, etc. a ton less for personal matters than say Bush and Obama. That figure of millions per personal plane travel is crazy high. If the President of the US had any common sense he would limit his airfare to 1 vacation per year. Oh wait, sorry, he is on vacation the entire year now isn't he?

Nearly everything this president does irritates me. Maybe everything he does.
But, even on vacation the president is in charge of the country and can be required to deal with a crisis at anytime, anywhere. His family is a potential target for the bad guys and must be protected around the clock too. No way we could expect or would want any of them traveling on commercial airlines, it would endanger the president, first family and the other passengers.
That being said, this president shows no restraint or respect when spending the public's money. No surprises there, the blame lies squarely on those who put him in office. Let's hope we can keep the damage he does to our country as limited as possible between now and the next election. The millions spent on his traveling is nothing compared to the cost of his policy and kingly decrees.

He was a Democrat Well, he didn't take Air Force One. We can be sure of that. Harry Truman was said to have enjoying vacationing at a duplex in Key West. I don't like this president or what has happened under this presidency but he's not particularly out of line with his "vacationing". One writer has accurately said that even away from the White House the president is never really on vacation. I guess that's even more true in today's world of immediate and electronic communication.

The first President to use a presidential specific aircraft was FDR is '42 or '43. [ C87 then C54] . The term Air Force One came about in '52 or '53 because of a near mid-air collision between two aircraft [ one carrying the President] due to ATC/pilot confusion between similar tail numbers.
Harry Truman had quite a place in Key West [ we could almost throw a stone to it]. It was a Naval facility aptly called the Truman Whitehouse. He enjoyed spending time there and became one of the towns favorite visiter. So, Truman used a presidential aircraft. It just didn't have the new call sign yet. There were also times Truman made the trip to EYW via yacht.
