Just think what has transpired in 70 years since this was taken. The film shows daily life following the end of the war. I'm just old enough to recall the excitement of those around me when this all ended. I was maybe 5 months old wen that movie was made. I've seen some still photos of the damage we wreaked on Berlin. Shudder to think what MIGHT have happened had hitler LISTENED to the remarkable Military men he had advising him. Had the M E 262-First operational jet fighter-showed up 6 months a year sooner than it did. Had we NOT been able to build the sheer volume of B-17s B-24s -P-51s P-47s P-38s etc etc. BUT we DID and they did NOT. RIDE SAFE.

There were two oddities, ironies, that struck me as I watched the video. One was the advertisement for a Japanese car that was showing alongside. Yes, I know that was different for every viewing of the video. The other was the thought that a very large potion of these people were transitioning from the horror of nazi Germany and World War II to the nightmare of U.S.S.R. dominated communist East Germany.
That was six years before I was born. I have no memory of the events. I have several relatives that served on the Allied side of that conflict.

2 1/2 years old at the time. We were lucky the war turned out the way it did.Hard to imagine New York ,Boston an other cities like that it things were different.

I was 17. I do remember most of it. It wasn't a well advertised fact why Eisenhower, in the race for Berlin, let the Russians take over part of Berlin and held our troops back.
That also brings back memories of rationing, A, B, And C gas stamps, no cars or tires available, bias against German Americans, war factories going full blast, and a P47 Thunderbolt trucked downtown to the courthouse square for a war bond drive.
Baer Field was constructed and at first many flights of P39's flew over before the government gave most of them to the Russians to fight against the Nazis.
I was a messenger for Civil defense and was given an armband, a whistle, and a flashlight. I was young and stupid to think that my job was a good part of the war effort while some guys my age quit school and served and were killed in the war.

I liked at about 1:40 when the woman in the bucket line passes the bucket, turns and thumbs her nose at the photographer. Being the first of the baby boomer generation I have no personal memory of the time and have never seen this film so thanks for posting it.

I have a good friend who is German and now 83. He grew up in Germany when the war was on. Tells me stories of being made by his parents to join the Hitler Youth. Very fascinating guy to talk to.

Never seen this video...very interesting to watch people get on with their daily lives. My mother grew up in Germany during the war, and I've heard many, many stories that relate directly to images seen here. Hard to imagine what the ordinary citizens were going through - which would apply to those in Britain as well during the bombing raids there. My generation here in North America has certainly been a privileged one when compared to our parents' and previous generations, in terms of not having to go through any significant life-changing events...
