"Good morning Campers!"
It's never to early to start investigating the perfect spot for all us campers to hang out near Ground Zero.
Even though Ground Zero is not announced yet any inputs by the "locals" around Morgantown concerning favorite camping spots would be greatly appreciated. The perfect place will  be one that can accommodate everything from primitive tent camping to 50 Amp service with water and sewer. Yeah, yeah, I know the world ain't perfect; but hey, it MIGHT happen.
This is gonna be great! :cooldude:

I agree, thanks for starting this thread.   :cooldude:

While I'm not 100% sure I'm going to make INZANE in Morgantown, it won't be for a lack of trying.
If I do make it, I'll be coming with my Valkyrie in my RV/Toy hauler and staying in the RV.   Most likely will offer at least a couple of riders the opportunity to stay in the RV and save several bucks on the cost of the hotel but, we'll have to see how it all works out.

Primitive camping is good for some but, I got that badge while serving in the Marines and the Army, don't need any oak leaf clusters added.   ;)

I am one of those who actually like camping.  :crazy2:
Therefore, I will definitely need a campsite for Inzane XVI. Won't need electricity, but I will need access to "other" amenities. ;) Hopefully, there will be a campsite that is close to "GroundZero". AND maybe be reasonably priced. :cooldude:
See you there!
Ride safe.

"Good Morning Campers!"
Hope everybody is checking their gear, winterizing your RV's if you need to, and think king about coming to Morgantown this June.
We hope to take one more short trip in ours this season before winterizing.
As soon as Ground Zero is announced and reservations open after the new year, I'll start investigating places for "Camp Zero".

I don't think there has ever been an "official" Camp Zero, but hey, maybe this year there will be.
I'll be glad to do what investigation I can from here as to reservation policies and rates at various camping locations around Morgantown and post my findings here.
All the campers may want to collectively decide on a Camp Zero.

I'll be sure to ask all locations I contact if they have provisions for Primitive and Semi Primitive (showers, fire pits, lantern hangers, etc...) campers as well as full hookups for RVs..

Anyone from the Morgantown area please give us your inputs on the various options as they are presented.
This is going to be great!

You might try Coopers Rocks State Park, It's been a while since I've been and I never camped there, but it is a beautiful area.  Also look along Cheat lake.

Cooper's Rocks State Park Suitability Report for Ground Zero Campsite, (GZC). You know us military guys, if we can't fine an acronym we'll make one up!  ;D

There are 25 total slots, all with Electricity. Only 12 of the sites are available for reservation. Sites are open for reservations from Friday prior to Memorial Day through October 31. Reservation requests are accepted from February 15th preceding that period.
I called for more information and found out about sewer and water connections. There are two water connections available to charge your on-board water tanks, but no water or sewer connections at individual sites. There is a dump station available.
The area looks wonderful, and may be a great choice for semi-primitive camping or near self-contained RVing. I don't think it will fit well for us.
Here's a link to the site for anyone that thinks it may fit their individual needs. http://www.coopersrockstateforest.com/camping.html

http://bigbearwv.com/pageload.cfm?pageid=4 is another option.

Bruceton Mills, WV is way less than an hour from ground zero, that campground is likely right at 45 minutes or so.

I'm from that area, more or less (Uniontown, Pa).

Cooper' s Rocks would be 1/2 that distance, all interstate 68.

Hello campers.

The best campground for Inzane XVI is probably Sand Springs Campground Just on the opposit side of rt 68 from Coopers Rock State Park.  sandspringscampground.com   With 31 full service rv sites and 42 tent sites, I believe that should accommodate all who wish to camp for Inzane XVI.

I have nothing to gain whether anyone uses this place or not.  Neither have I been by that campground anytime in the last 10 years.  Just sayin it is in a good location and easy to get to.

...

Every year the organizers make contact in the preparation visit to campgrounds in the area and promote a campground in hopes that InZane campers will be able to camp near one another.

This year the organizers are suggesting Sand Springs Campground.  They have good facilities and they have offered a slight rate reduction to the InZane attendees.  She's also committed to an effort to place the InZane attendees near one another.

When we spoke with her today she did ask for a single contact for the InZane campers and I believe BudMan will be filling this role.

Bigwolf

Willow,

Thank you and whomever else helped you for making the initial contact with Sand Springs and getting a discount for all the VRCC campers.    Another job well done.   :cooldude:

"Good morning Campers!"
Need a challenge to wile away the long winter months 'till time to get the RV or tent out and head to Morgantown WZ for InZane?
Well, look no further! I've got the just the ticket for ya.
Go to Google Maps and look for the Sand Springs Campground sign.  One hint, Sand Springs Rd may go by a different name locally. Here are the directions to the campground as posted on their website.

"Traveling I-68 East,Take exit #15,At the stop sign TURN LEFT,If Traveling from I-68 West TURN RIGHT at stop sign.
Turn RIGHT onto old route 73,go 1/4 mile and turn LEFT onto the Sand Springs Rd. go 2 miles more. Campground on the left.
We have no physical address, Please use directions above."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I spoke briefly today with our contact at Sand Springs and she and I are scheduled for further discussions on Friday the 22nd. (She is currently on vacation and I didn't want to intrude on her time off.)
I'll get something up as soon as I know more.
Here's a link to their site for anyone that wants to start looking at the layout: http://www.sandspringscampground.com/index.html

BudMan,
Just use the directions!  There is no need to worry about the name of the Sand Springs/Chestnut Ridge Road.  When you get off 68 heading north, you will immediately T into 78.  You have to make a turn there.....so go ahead and turn right.  From there, there is only one road to the left within a mile of the 1/4 mile distance stated.  It is also the first road you will see that goes of to your left.  That would be the correct road to turn left onto.  There are no other turns to be made.  You will see the camp on your left when you get to it.  The one word of caution I will give is this: when on 73 and getting close to the stated 1/4 mile, slow down.  You will be topping a hill and the road to the left is a bit obscured by the hill.  Don't let is surprise you.

This will work out really well.  A person would have to work real hard to mess up so bad they can't find that campground.

Anyone interested in RVing at the campground, give me a shout.    I can put up two in the RV. (More if you bring your own cot.)

Just looking to cut my costs, I have a fold out couch and an Army style fold out cot.   Will have electric and water hook ups.   The RV also has microwave, stove/oven and refrigerator.   Yes, there is a restroom/shower but, I intend to use the bath house at the camp ground since they don't have camp site sewer hook ups.   Shoot me a PM if interested.   Depending on how many take me up on the offer, it shouldn't cost over $18 to $20 per night.    Beats the heck out of the cost of the hotel.

Michael,
I believe that Budman is trying to set this up for a group rate, (could be wrong about that) he may or may not be successful but, the more folks that contact  him and advise him of their camping needs, the more ammunition he has to work with.    From his earlier post in this thread, I believe he is talking to the same site, Sand Springs.

I've already talked to Sand Springs but am waiting on Budman's word to make reservations.

Right you are!
I am scheduled to talk to them on Friday about the rates and so forth. (My primary contact at sand Springs will not be available until then.)
Michael, I think the location is short of the area you posted.
There is no physical address for the RV park and I think the one you found is actually a camping area only.

"Good-morning Campers"
Just got the true coordinates for Sand Springs Campground.
(As BigWolf pointed out, the directions will lead you right there.) I just enjoyed finding the grounds on Google Earth.
Here's the link to the location I found.https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B041'08.1%22N+79%C2%B046'22.6%22W/@39.685573,-79.775131,735m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0?hl=en The parking spots are really hard to see but the pool and office/store are easily visible.

I spoke with the campground earlier today. It will make it easier to "deal " with them on price when I have a good idea of the number of campers we will have.
I really like her reservation and deposit policy... no money until we show up! She does just ask notice of cancellation as soon as possible for anyone not able to attend.

Just chime in on this thread is you are going and I'll keep a tally of the attendees. She gave me some prices, but I think I can negotiate a better deal. They were very reasonable, but I don't think they are the final offer. More to follow...

Buddy,

Will be staying with the group whether it's at Sand Springs or _____________ (fill in the blank).

Will bring my RV/Toyhauler, will want electric and water hook ups.   Actually, the water is just for washing the bike.  ;)    So far, I have one guest staying for the whole event with me.

I still have one bunk open if anyone is interested.     AC will be on, the frig should be full of something and we'll figure it out from there.

My understanding is, they will put me in a back in slot versus a pull through.   Will appreciate any savings you can negotiate in the deal.   Does Sand Springs have Wifi?

Good point on the WiFi, Ron.
Their says, "We now have limited WiFi". I suspect that means you have to be in the office area to have it.

I don't mean to be negative, but I just want to let you how things work in the real world.

I am happy to assist Budman on getting a group of InZaners together at a good campsite specifically for those who have a strong camping preference or if camping is the only way they'll be able to attend InZane.

I've got some issue with the "Beats the heck out of the cost of the hotel."  The reason that causes me a small problem is that what is negotiated with and provided by the hotel for these gatherings is based upon the number of rooms the hotel fills during the event.  If too many people are successful in finding someplace, any place, that "beats the heck out of the cost of the hotel" then items needed to be available for the event will not be covered by the hotel and events in following years simply won't take place.

The VRCC staff goes to great lengths during the selection and negotiations with the hotel to acquire the best price possible for a good quality hotel for the event.  WE need our folks as much as possible to be fully part of the event at that hotel.

That said, if camping is the only way you'll be able to attend InZane or if camping is simply the travel style that you adopt then I do want you to camp and enjoy the event.  I believe being able to gather with a number of other campers will make the stay more enjoyable and I believe Budman will do a good job in putting this option available for the campers.

Looking forward to seeing a large group in West Virginia.

Rams

Carl,
I believe I understand your issue and will not bring it up again.

Now that I'm semi-retired, my income is limited and RVing is the best way for me to participate.
But, if you'll notice, I have posted numerous times and have tried to encourage others to come to Inzane.    Based on the posts I've read this evening from yourself and Lori, I believe it would be best if I simply stopped discussing Inzane.   I don't believe anything I have posted varies from the truth but, I'll keep it to myself from this point on.

Ride safe.

Hi Bud,

This would be my first Inzane and I am strongly considering attending this one.  I have never been able to attend because work always got in the way.  I am retired now so I can attend, and also thinking about camping.  I have an Aspen that I have never used, so that would make camping a first also.  I would be traveling down from Long Island and plan to get there on Sunday and stay until Friday.

Rich

BudMan

Hi Rich!
Those Aspen campers look really cool. I'd like to get a "tour" of it this summer. Haha.
Karen and I were very serious back packers in past years and so naturally progressed to motorcycle camping with the same gear when my back and Karen's knees pretty much ended our back packing.
We traveled for a few years using a StarLite trailer and our backpacking gear.
Now that I recently "retired" (got laid off and decided not to go back) we use our Raptor Toy Hauler. It keeps us close to camping and nature, but lets us recover more quickly from a day of hard riding and fun.
Time rolls on, ya got to roll with it...
