Insurance came through with $8600 for my Valk. While it was my baby and had countless of my own hours into it, I can't complain about this settlement. Even with its low 6500 actual miles, I'd be hard pressed to get that amount... I love the ride of my Valk, love the classic form (compared to the new style Valk), and loved the "muscle" it exuded. My only complaint with the Valk was that I wanted more oomph, and low end oomph... so, the Triumph struck a chord with me and I found this one, one owner, with 190 actual miles on it for less than what insurance is giving me... could I say no?.. no. It isn't my first Triumph, I've owned three before (Trophy 1200, Datona 1200 and a Datona 955i which was wicked fast). There is a mystique about a trumpet that is hard to explain... I'm hoping the style, power, looks and brand will equal or exceed the "glow" of the Valk... I will admit, though, that of all my rides, the Valk board has been the best of any I've been involved in. I won't disappear, I'll always be a Valk rider, just riding a trumpet. Course, the worst part is I'll be healing into January and can't even drive a car, but the bike deal needed to be scooped up now... I'll pull the wheelchair up and drool on it.... You guys are the best. John

Good looking R3. That almost looks svelte in black and chrome... Glad you are almost back in the saddle. Let me know if you need someone to put some miles on her b4 you are ready...

Nice. I've always thought that I'd like a Triumph Rocket III. I know what you mean about sitting in the garage. After my surgery last summer (I was out of work for 4 months), I'd do the exact same thing.....I'd hobble down to the garage and just sit there soaking up some vitamin D and sit and stare at the Valk for an hour or more. It sure made my mental state a much better one.

i'm glad to hear that you are on the mend! deer and motorcycles don't mix well at all...
in addition to the valk i also ride an '01 tiger, it's actually a "transition" tiger in that it has the new(for '01) body style and upgraded suspension but it has the 885i cc triple instead of the 955i... it's an excellent machine! when John Bloor took over triumph he did things right, in fact he lured some of Honda's top brass over to Triumph and also adapted a lot of the japanese m/c manufacurers practices and mentality/appraoches to m/c manufacturing... i feel pretty confident that you will love your rocket!

that's a very good deal on a near new 2011 rocket III for sure. Looks like new and basically is new. Enjoy.
Only thing I doubt the rocket III will be is just as reliable-wise as our old Valks have been say 10+ years down the road. Hope I am wrong though. With so few miles on it now, it should last.

Good choice for a hot rod. I bought the one in my avatar pic in 2006 used with 385 miles on it. Knock on wood, have never had any trouble with it. Only 24000 miles or so on it now but when I bought it I was looking for more "go fast now" and got it. I have a 205/60-16 Bridgestone Potenza on it because the 240/50-16 motorcycle tires at $250 each were breaking the bank too often. I have done a lot to make mine fit me better but still love the power. I would like to sell mine now so if you know anyone else in need of an acceleration fix let me know. Price will be very reasonable. Shameless thread hijack. I hope you are able to put some miles on it soon.

How's the "dark side" riding with that car tire? I till like to honk a corner. I don't mind more steering effort, but don't want to be riding on the sidewall when I'm into a corner. What's your thoughts? seeing at you put some miles on it. If I lived in Florida, it would be a no brainer, but southern Utah? Lots of curvy roads. Thanks for the well wishes everyone! These are greatly appreciated. Life is about relationships. John

It sure made my mental state a much better one. Ha! The church really helped us out and someone there had an older wheelchair lift which one of the members made a platform to in our garage so I can roll up and press the "down" button and roll into the garage. I'm not much good at actually doing anything, but I can think about my projects and do a few things if I get some help. I think it is very therapeutic. One of my "projects" is getting a 1997 ZX-11 running. It was a barn-find that hadn't run in probably 7 years or so (3600 actual miles with a complete Muzzy 4:1 stainless exhaust system, what appear to be new tires and clean body). I've re-built the carbs and re-installed. Still won't turn over (unless I jumper the solenoid, then it does) and fuel pump won't run even though I replaced the starter solenoid. I think the side-stand safety switch is the culprit but I can't get down there to remove it and jumper the connection... sigh... sit and think. Wife doesn't like the ZX. can't blame her, but I had one years ago and they are a great bike, plus this one was only $1,000 (bought a few months ago). Not sure I want to be zipping around now on it that i've used up my cat-lives though (slight perspective change here). Anyway, it still needs to run and fixing is half the fun! John

Had a 2014 Rocket III Touring. Bike rode very well, comparable to the Valk in handling. Transmission was crap and the dealership kept telling me there was nothing wrong with it. I finally gave up the ghost and reluctantly got rid of it. I'd own another one but not before I got to ride it quite a ways before I purchased it. done the "Tors" yet?

I love the car tire, I have the Bridgestone as I said, but next one will be a Michelin Primacy XV4 like I have on the 99 Interstate or whatever Michelin is selling at the time. It is much more rounded. I have had the one on the Valkyrie for several thousand miles and it acts almost like a motorcycle tire but gives me a much better ride and so says my passenger. It also stops and starts better. Not trying to sell the car tire but you asked. My independent shop guy said it gave him a fit trying to get it on that wide rim, and the Rocket rim has no dip in the center like the Valkyrie does so it was very difficult even with the machine.

Nice ride. We sold our '99 Valk to acquire a 2008 Rocket, crashed it, and bought a '11 Rocket Roadster w/ABS. The Rocket did not make us forget the Valk, but it is a nice consolation prize. Rough and raw and (for us, at least) not very comfortable, but very powerful and capable. You gonna like it.
We trudge on.
