Is Kevin McCarthey really going to be the new leader ? Seems like the House members would be looking for someone else now. But it seems like he's going to get the position.

Never heard of him before, and I bet none of my uber-lib NYC friends have either, but that hasn't stopped the incredible amount of facebook posts with silly pictures and absurd things he supposedly said written across them.

Maybe another Heraldo. Claiming he is a Republican but sure can side or spout out excuses for the Dems. Mc Carthy,s blip about Bengazi hearings political seems to imply to liberal for me. Undecided

McCarthy may well have endorsed Hillary. That would have been less damaging.

His interview and comments regarding Benghazi will certainly be a major campaign ad for her.

I don't know that much. He won a lottery and bought a deli in Bakersfield . Went on to congress and now it looks like speaker. I'm not a republican so it's not up to me who they pick. But it looks like a boon for the democrats.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the job of "Speaker of the House" is about to go to a guy that has a hard time speaking ?

To take on the constant assault from the left especially the way out left who does most of the squeaking you need a speaker with a dynamic personality that will go on the offensive with good oracle skills and rally the others behind him.  From what I have seen and heard from him the past week he only talks a good game, and not a great game.  We have seen this way to many times.  His approach to the true conservatives according to Jaime Dupree so far is that I am not John Boehner.  Well ain't that grand.  I was so hoping for an articulate bull dog like Trey Gowdy but he does not want the job.
Two thumbs down on Macarthy.

Bring back Newt Gingrich.

While I think that's an excellent suggestion, Ole Newt will need to get himself re-elected in order to serve in that position.

I could be wrong but, I'm thinking Rep. Ryan is going to end up as Speaker.   He doesn't really want it but, I'm thinking he's going to get drafted.  Smiley

The Constitution does not require that the Speaker be an elected House Representative, though every Speaker so far has been an elected Member of Congress.

Yup.. There's no requirement that the Speaker of the House BE a member OF the House...

Any of us could be elected as Speaker of the House.

But as citizens of this society, that's just a risk we have to take.

While technically correct, no one has ever been elected to the position without being an elected Representative.    I sincerely doubt it's going to happen now.    But, I'd support Newt for it.    Anyone want Nancy back, you remember, the lady that said the reps would have to vote for ObamaCare so they could read what was in it?

Well, I guess that would depend on one's definition of genius.    With the numerical advantage the Dems had over the Republicans when she was Speaker, tactical was not even a consideration.    She had the Obuminator and a vast majority to pass legislation.

Not even a fair comparison.   She didn't have 30 Maverick Reps to deal with.    Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Boehner fan but, anyone would have their hands full with that kind of challenge.

Heard that Newt Gingrich is lobbying for the job.  Why not?  One more idiot in the mix should prove interesting for further fracturing of what passes for the Republican party these days?  William F. Buckley is probably having a seizure wherever he is now.  Cry

That's likely one of the most commonly misquoted commercials of our time.  The final words of that quote actually are, " ... he doesn't like anything."

Your perspective seems to be accurate.  No one seems to really want it.

not sure why you think Mr. Gingrich is an idiot. While he was speaker of the house he worked with a president from the other party as well as a senate run by the other party. Together, they accomplished, a balanced budget, as well as the only true welfare reform we have ever experienced.
